Oh yeah I forgot to comment on CARB and Cali in general. Man that is really harsh, I hope I can get a job writing for a magazine or newspaper down here and never have a reason to goto Cali. I get harassed enough as it is, you make it sound like car enthusiast hell over there. And 91 octane... ew.

MIA, good point. I wonder why most performance companies/shops are out there. (other than importing parts from Japan, but this is 2005, you can get the same parts the next day being on the east coast (if shipped to cali and then out from there). I certainly would move if I was into modifying my car. Heck, Nevada's right there, and still within driving distance to the performance shops and performance companies.

I'm glad HKS is releasing a higher lb. pulley. I was extremely dissapointed with their kit...$7,000 and 320rwhp...

Yeah dont get me wrong...I love Cali and DO NOT WANT the companies to move out of here. I want the stupid BS CARB laws to go away... We have all this emissions crap we have to worry about on my turbo Z that is doing very little harm to the air and then I see the huge plume of diesel smoke coming out of the semis on the freeway and wonder what they have to abide by. Carb is nothing but a worthless governing body that does nothing but frustrate car enthusiasts and waste precious state funding. If the Governator wants to balance the budget I say drop the CARB system completely. That shoudl shave off a few hundred Gs.

its still a prototype. do not expect the 9lb pulley to be CARB approved. it will most likely be offered as an offroad only option. i have the HKS SC and have known about the 9lb pulley for about a year. my installer is an HKS pro-dealer and has been to the HKS conferences and seen all the upcoming goodies coming from HKS USA.

i promised not to tell everything i know, but the biggest sticking point with HKS offering tuner kits is there ability to get CARB approval. i spoke with the designer of the HKS SC at SEMA last year and that was the primary reason for developing a SC vs a turbo. that being said, there is a possibility (no guarantee), HKS will be offering a 9lb. pulley and FCON V Pro as part of a tuner package for there current kit. the pulley has already been designed and a few folks have prototypes (i think one was in one of the car mags).

to all the people that think the HKS SC kit is a rip-off because the MSRP is $7k, i dont know anyone that actually paid that. right now you can get them for about $2k less than MSRP. HKS is taking it in the shorts with this SC kit right now. One thing is for certain, HKS will always be there with top notch service and support. The main reason i got this kit is that i know HKS will not allow themselves to be on the bottom of the totem pole in the 350z market.

so what's the holdup with the carb cert for the ootb kit? when i call them, they say its carb-pending which means its def gonna happen (their exact words), but the kit has been out for quite awhile now.
and now the vortech is carb certified? their ads never even advertised that they were carb PENDING, iirc.
as far as being at the bottom of the totem pole, they certainly ARE in terms of hp ootb and cost, which is prolly why few people buy their kits.
have you read the article at importtuner.com? very promising. here's the link:

Zboy, I'm feeling your pain! I've been holding out for the JWT TT to get CARB'd and this waiting is killing me! I'm dying to go FI...but legally. This CARB crap in Cali is just so stupid!

Now that Vortech has their CARB#, that kit is starting to tempt me!

I keep telling myself to wait a little longer...a little longer...a little longer.

im not from cali so i really dont care about CARB, but i got something in the mail about 2 months ago that said if i get some kind of fuel system check valve (provided by HKS) they would be able to send me a CARB approved sticker. is HKS just sending this out in anticipation of CARB approval? or, do they have CARB and are just waiting for me to request this check valve?

this is the first ive heard that vortech has a CARB number. im a little skeptical.

edit: i want the engine cover in that article

It would be nice if they do a buy back on the FCON SZ since I was willing to pay for a V Pro but they did not want to swap it out.

ha! that's exactly what i said when i saw that pic.
that is weird about the mailing you rec'd. i'll have to call hks cuz i have their kit sitting in my garage waiting to be installed, and i'm in cali.
ya, re vortech, you'd think they'd be announcing it on all the boards if they were indeed carb certified, but they WERE the first to offer a sc kit for the
350, so maybe its true. i'll check their site.
yup, it says they're 50 state legal here:http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...3-04_350Z.html

I am a trader in the Uk and have spoke toHKS about this before they are developing a 9.5 psi pulley that should realease alot more than the weak 80hp the current one does.

still if you want safe FI without worries the HKS is good for a daily driver.
