Default Guys Running Iridium Spark Plugs With FI

Hey guys, I am going to be installing my brand new vortech s/c 2morrow, and I ordered (should get them today) the Iridium LFR6AIX-11 (one step colder). I just want to make sure that they come pre-gapped for our car. Several people have told me different things. Some say to gap, and some say just put them in how they come?

I would like to know exactly which 1 to do?

Thanks,
Richard

BTW, I have a 2003 CS 5AT

I could be wrong, but when I bought NGK Coppers for my last car, I had to gap them myself. Once I was told at what spec I should gap them, I bought a $1.25 gapping tool from Advanced Auto Parts and gapped them.

I am curious what the plugs need to be gapped to, usually there is a formula if they don't come pre-gapped.

I would run the coppers if your only going 1 step colder... I am running 2 step colder iridiums only because the 2 steps doing come in copper.... And you have to check and gap the plugs yourself.. I am running them at 35... If you don't know the corect way to gap, i would have a professional do them.. I have seen 10 different ways in which people gap....

I am pretty sure it is a .005mm gap change for every 50hp over stock, or something similar. On my last car, the stock gapping was .053, and I was 100HP over stock, so we gapped the NGK Coppers to .043 (.005 + .005). You basically need to know the stock gap and what the rate of change should be.

Go NGK Irdium one step colder, as you mentioned...perfect for F/I applications. In regards to gapping, withour direct coil over plug ignition system, you can run factory gaps of .040 to .044 without any chance of spark blow out. Some people prefer to run tighter gaps, but that is an old habit from the past, when a lot of cars had traditional spark plug wires and ignition coils.
If you need some...we sell them here..always in stock: http://www.forgedinternals.com/store...cat=264&page=1
