Turbonetics ST's weakest link?
 

it might sound like a silly question...but what's the weakest link the ST has? i.e. which component of it should I be careful of?

are there any members in Canada that have had problems with the ECU reflash? Apperantly there are... I doubt it for it was told to me by a shop that wanted me to have on custom made by them. :icon8: the only thing I can think of is the "different" fuel U.S. and Canada have... is that true?

Im not speaking from experience as I have not received my kit yet, but from seeing some posts over the past couple of weeks, Id say the reflash isnt working out for everybody....Im a little worried that I may need to add a piggyback to fine tune.

+1. I'm working closely with Turbonetics right now to try and manage the rich condition in my car. Since no two cars are the same, but the flash is the same every time, it'll be interesting to see how it works out as more and more people install this kit. All in all, the rest of the kit is very high quality. My only other concern is under-hood temps. Opening the hood of my car after driving for any length of time is like opening the door to your oven.

hmm I'm in Canada - to what degree should I worry about the reflash?

just spoke to T-Netics... they said ECU reflash might be a problem with Canadian cars...

Just got my Turbonetics installed and the car is running great. Idle is good. Dyno yesterday on a Dyno Dynamic with 354 WHP and 358 WTQ. The first pull my A/F was like 10:2 kinda rich. 2nd and 3rd pull were leaner. I will post the graph when the dyno place send them to me.

Like Kcobean said...it's really hot under the hood. I'm planning to buy vented CF hood to see if it will help. If not then have to go with the hood spacer from one of the vendor selling plenum spacer...I forgot which vendor :)

Have the Voretch S/C and underhood also gets very hot.. usually open it when I get home and let out some heat..Other than soft goods, like cables/wires the metallic parts and engine sensors should have no effect due to heat..What is a hood spacer??

Motordyne Engineering sells a hood spacer. Around $20-40. It mounts onto the hood-to-body mount and lifts it a couple of inches. Cooling is around 20-50 degrees F cooler all around the engine bay.

from what I understand, this would involve putting washers in the rear mounting bolts of the hood to have a small gap in the rear of the hood to let some of the heat out

friend of mine does this in his turbo civic, every bit helps when there is that much heat.

I have a ProCharger under hood heat isnt too bad considering

Would be an aestetic improvement if the hood spacer was designed with a detent pin that allowed the hood to fully close when you want it closed and opened for cooling when running hard..Think a lot of guy's would want it..Motordyne are you listening??

Well, it closes with the hood spacer...you just have to remove the spacer for it to sit flush.

they've sold about 3 kits to Canada now and none had any issues with the ECU.

Right, I was suggesting it be designed to be closed ( flush) and opened when you want without removing the bracket....

sorry, but having a gap like that in the hood looks hideous!

Todd, right...but at the track it wouldn't matter...preventing heat soak from happening as fast (for more runs) would be worth the bad look IMO.

I would think if you ran a vented hood that would give you the temp decrease without looking so ghetto. Im planning on first running a Varis air duct, then a vented hood with my T-netics kit. <----still havent decided which one.
