Default Rods

I will be getting my engine built soon and would like to know your opinions on the eagle H beam rods. My target horsepower is 600 whp. The rods are suppose to be good for 850 whp. What do you think?

I had very good luck with Eagles in all my Honda built engines. They were the only part I never had break on me. Most people will say Pauter rods are better...and they are....but they cost a ton and are VERY heavy when compared to an Eagle. When I build my next vq I will use Eagle. The Pauters I think are just overkill. Most guys never see over 600hp with this motor anyhow without running into other issues anyhow.

I sell both the Eagle and Pauter rods. Personally, I would pick the Pauter rods....I dont think even one rod has failed anyone yet...and this with around 80 sets sold.

The VQ Eagle rods are made in China, hence the lower cost. Believe me, I am not knocking the rods...Eagle makes some good stuff. But their country of origin helps explain the huge price difference.

In terms of weight, they will make no notable difference at the RPM's that this motor is seeing. The VQ is not bored/stroked to comfortably rev much more than 7500rpm...even with extensive headwork.

I have both in stock right now...FYI. Eagle for $599 and Pauter for $1170 both shipped.

Also, do I need a AAM return line or will RC 650cc injectors and walbro 255lph pump meet my fuel demands?

What boost level are you looking at? Anything about 7psi, IMHO, really needs a proper and complete return fuel system. Its extremely challenging to tune a car, when fuel pressure is all over the board. With the AAM return system, and a Walbro 255, you will be surprised at how far even a 550cc injector will take you, running about 52psi of differential fuel pressure. We have seen 550whp and 580ft/lbs trq with this size. Granted, the duty cycle nears 100%, but you can't beat the easy drivability of the 550's vs. the 650's and 750's. THe car idles near stock, and the eManage can easily control the 550's.

If you are interested in a package of forged/built motor products, I can put together an estimate, and a package deal for you...just email me: sharif@forgedinternals.com

Hope that helps.

This is the engine combo I want- forged rods, pistons, jwt cams, farrea 1mm oversized valves and valve train, port and polish, greddy twins, and a fuel solution. I have some of these already and gathering the rest for the build. At around 15psi of boost what is the estimated horsepower level If I can accomplish this with the AAM return system and 550cc injectors, then that is what I will do. I look forward to doing alot of purchases from your shop. Thanks

15psi with no headwork, i'm seeing around 560rwhp (corrected)..close to 500 actual..pulling 13 degrees of timing (13-14 degree advance at 4800rpm)

so, with headwork and cams...and at sealevel..should make high 500's for sure!!!

LOL....most Eagle rods are made in America...the VQ ones are not. Maybe they just apply stickers to all the boxes.

Sounds like a comprehensive list. If your goal is 15psi and about 550, then some of the headwork can be skipped. Still a good idea to do, if you plan to eventually push your engine further. I can help you....call me....I'd be happy to walk through the various options.

How about Crower? Do they make vq35 rods yet?

The Eagles are tempting at that price but then, this is probably the most crucial part of a built engine so I am not so sure it's wise to save money here. I'm sure you get what you pay for, and knowing how torquey a turbo vq35 is, I'd be scared to save those 700 bucks or so.

They do, but they require the block to be notched for them to clear.

The rod doesnt clear the block on the down stroke, so a notch is made.
