Default Got my newly turbo'd G back

Got my APS single turbo installed and tuned by Dyno Comp in Scottsdale,AZ. I am running a JIC 3 inch single exit exhaust with that retarded reducer pipe that APS made to mate the down pipe to the stock exhaust. Well I have that reducer pipe on there and it creates a massive bottle neck in the exhaust causing my boost to taper off something fierce. I hit 10 psi just after 4500 rpm and it holds there about 100 rpm and then gradually tapers off to 5 psi at redline, in order to achieve this result we had to adjust the waste gate actuator by 4 turns. Prior to that it was hitting just under 7 psi and dropping to 5psi.
Air fuel is good at wot, right at 11.1 or 11.2 but its not real smooth. Keeping in mind that I dynoed on a Dyno Dynamics dynamometer which reads 10% lower than your typical dynojet I hit 330.1whp and 330wtq which roughly woulda been 366 on a dynojet. So now I am going to a buddy of mine to have him either fab me up a 3 inch pipe to replace the one from APS or have him cut and lengthen the exhaust pipe all the way back to the down pipe to get rid of that reducer pipe. Then we will try it again and hopefully hold the boost till redline.
All that being said I am loving all this new power and cant find any traction on these stock tires until 3rd gear. Here are pics of my run sheets and that reducer pipe I am talking about..... I dont own a scanner.

that's cool, kinda odd that from 5000 to redline the hp stays even - i mean, the only advantage to shifting at redline instead of at 5000 is the gearing advantage, not because you're making more power. That must be kinda like driving a 4 cylinder beater car and driving it up to redline in how it must feel from 5k to redline - it's almost like why bother?

was that on stock unichip tune or did Rick custom tune the thing? My NA Z made 272whp there about a month ago. They were telling me I would pull close to 300whp on a dynojet. Not sure how true that is or not though.

Yea rich had to spend about an hour dialing it in. When we first fired it up it couldnt hold boost for nothing and was extremely rich, I think the best run before tune was 298whp.

Isnt 330 kinda low for the amount of mods that you have? Is it tuned?

welcome to the mysterious world of APS, my car has never held boost until now. i finally had to wire my wastegate shut, now it hits and holds 10 psi till redline. i think the wastegate springs are weak.

about the exhaust, do what i did with my JIC, have somebody cut that reducer in half to where its 3", cut the flange off the JIC, and weld an extension in there with the larger end on the reducer on it so the JIC bolts right to the downpipe. simple.

it's a dyno dynamics dyno load based dyno, not a dynojet
it's numbers are more conservative.
Really it's the best dyno to tune on

It looks like your not hitting full boost till after 4200RPM. Get that car tuned. You should be close to 390 - 410 RWHP if it could hold the boost. Have fun and be carefull with the stock tires and that much power.

Hi George,

I guess you received your kit and everything worked out well? Congrats on the install.

Thx for the pic, thats an excellent idea. BTW, are you running with or without the silencer on your exhaust? I cant stand how loud it is w/o the silencer in.

It looks low comapred to dynojet numbers. In reality I am right on target with everyone else who has this turbo. Had I dyno'ed on a dyno jet it would show right around 370.

DynoComp is great. I was their first APS single install and I had the same problem. Restrictive exhaust, big time. New APS exhaust coming soon! Richard and John are great, just need them to open a branch in Las Vegas.

By the way, my traction sucked until I got the Quaife LSD. Now it rules. Cut .6 seconds off my 1/4mile time on street tires.

get that reducer thing fixed and you'll see the whp rise by about 30. i was skeptical at first but after i got the car back i couldn't believe such a small piece of metal could hold back so much power.

the JIC isnt restrictive, you must be talking about the stock exhaust.
