Exclamation Problems with Turbonetics kit....

Ok, heres my situation....

i was driving and decided to get on it a little bit in 3rd gear so i pushed the pedal down and shifted at about 5500 rpms. at about 4th gear the engine cut off at 4000. it felt like a fuel cut off, but i dont know. i looked at the boost and it was at a normal reading. then i looked at the A/F and it read 10 (i have defi d gauges) i know thats not normal, but the situation is:

1. I Cant go any higher than 2500 rpm's.
2. The engine sounds like ****, it idles real rough.
3. its smoking a little more than usual now this has happened.

could it be missing?
i didnt see any oil or anything leaking on the ground, if that has any play in this situation.

if you could please help me in this matter or if you have any input, please let me know. oh, by the way, SGP installed the Turbonetics kit.

Please HELP!

thanks

So at 4K it just completely cut off? After that you cannot rev after 2500 rpm's... No idea, you should go back to SGP and let them look at it.

Honestly we can't be much help since we are not presently there and have not encountered this kind of problem before (that I am aware of).

When i first installed my TN kit i had the smell you described and i could not go past 4000 RPMs. it turned out that the oil line fittings on the turbo charger (feed and return) were not tight enough. actually i think the teflon tape was not good enough for that application. i fixed the problem by using teflon paste, works like a champ. Could have been a combination of both.

Anyhow, my rough idle was caused by a coupler after the MAF coming off (at Throttle body) when i hit partial boost for the first time (didn't notice at first due it being night time). My Z would shut off if i didn't keep revving the engine. Like i wrote above, it shut down as you explained @4000RPMs while driving.
so:

1) check all your couplers, make sure they are secured properly. clamps in grooves

2) Check for the leaks. remove shroud to see if there is evidence of an oil leak.

nothing big probably just a few quirks to work out.

it sounds like you hit MAF overload, a few of the greddy owners had this happen i think. If it happens again, just turn your car off for a few min, then start it again. It should work.

I would say that it is a pipe that came loose. I had a friend with a Supra TT that had the same problem and it was a intercooler pipe that came loose before the throttle body.

This EXACT same thing happened to me. You hit limp mode because the MAF voltaged maxed out and this causes immediate limp-mode. It's scary as hell when it happens. I restarted my car and it's run fine since (of course I have a voltage clamp on the MAF now with the GReddy EU).

Limp mode makes the engine run like crap, and you're limited to 2500 RPM. Restart the car and it will run fine if you haven't done so already. Scary huh?

Also make sure you have no water sitting in your intercooler trying to be sucked up through your maf due to driving in heavy rain......

MAF is the only thing that could result from that it either poped off like mine did or is getting exess air in

Yeah, I'm not sure about the APS twin, but on this kit, the air filter sits on top of the intercooler inside the front bumper. It would take some extreme circumstances to get enough water in through the filter to actually get accumulation in the intercooler.

All of the above are correct. If turning the car off and turning it back on fixes it your MAF is freaking. If it doesn't then check for a loose boost pipe. Check all the couplers especially around the intercooler..

::update::

ive turned my car on and off about 3 times, still the same problem....im gonna have to have it sent back to SGP, i sure as hell hope its something like that MAF problem.....man, after this happened i swear i ****ted my pants...it was scary when it happened and its scary still.....

since we are on the same subject, if it is the MAF and i get it fixed.... what is recommended to prevent this again?

thanx for the input,

If the MAF fried theres nothing that could have prevented this...the MAF just went bad..it sounds like its most likely a boost leak somewhere...Just checking all the couplers might locate the issue.
