Default UTEC vs UNICHIP?

Got the Unichip now, but dont have anybody within 12 hours to get it tuned. Thinking about going with the UTEC but dont know if ill benefit much. I dont know if anybody close to me has even seen the UTEC yet. What major advantages are to be had using the UTEC.

Well having seen both the Utec seems like a better choice if you are looking to change. The Utec allows you to input exact timing rather than plus or minus, it has knock retard which you can program as to sensitivity.

Visit Evolutionm.net (EVO forum), and/or the Subaru forums... UTEC is king

And hell it is TurboXS

Which is why from the feedback from those guys that I wanted UTEC on my Z even before finding out they were going to be making one.

Utech seems to be the closest we are going to get to a stand alone and still keep the stuff we want to keep . I like that you can calculate in weather changes , set timing , knock sensor , also let the ECU control start up and idle . Will be ordering this spring...unless some thing better come along .

the utec has more control and in theory is better than the unichip. There are other things you need to consider. Regardless if it is the utec or unichip, do you have a tuner nearby that you would trust to tune your car? if not, you might as well drive 12+ hrs to a tuner you do trust.

Also keep in mind, the unichip does everything you need (your are running ST). For me, the utec becomes more appealing as I am in need of a EMS that has scaling capabilities, which the unichip does not. That said, here comes the kicker for me-> to replace the unichip with the utec, you need the following:
utec-> 1000 bucks
Map Sensor -> 120 bucks
Electronic Boost controller -> 550 (Blitz SBC i-D Dual Solenoid Boost Controller)
+ install and tune
IMO, it would be better just to spend a couple days and have your unichip tuned if it does everything you need it to do.

Also, keep in mind, APS is coming out with a new EMS in a few months and should provide as much control as the utec.

Zivman-
I love your optimism. I'm still waiting for the release of the Tall-Boy plenum with the secondary injectors. Now that SEMA is over and they haven't released a flood of new products, I'm not holding my breath for the APS EMS. I got the impression they were focusing on CARB certification before everything else. I'd love to be wrong and see them roll out some exciting new stuff.

A good indication to APS releasing new products will be their activity on all of the 350Z forums.You will see them become more active in the few weeks prior to releasing their new products, its their "thing"..

....no doubt talking about their "well-engineered intercooled ball bearing turbocharger systems" haha.

I love to hate on them for some reason, but hell, if I had a Vette or GTO, I'm sure I'd be buying an APS TT for it!

They do make a good product...Their claims are a little "fluffed" at times, but they make a good product none the less..

MRC Motorsports-
Since I already bought my APS TT kit, pistons, AAM fuel system, etc. from you, do you have the new big exhaust in yet, or are no longer dealing directly with APS?

Hey Bruce,
We no longer stock APS parts and are no longer an APS Dealer. Peter removed us from the dealer listing without so much as an Email or phone call and without reason. After this we asked our selves, is this really a company we would like to do business with anyway?Do we feel comfortable selling products from a company that removes you as a dealer with no notice and hangs you as well as our APS customers out to dry with no product support?
We think their product is great, their managment and cocky attitudes suck..
Wouldnt you feel more comfortable purchasing products from a company that treats it's dealers and customers better?

Your absolutely right thats why if i need any other parts i will get them from another source before APS. They let the success of this kit go to their bloody head mate. Anyhow, if there is nothing else available then I guess they still got the upper hand. They could have been an awesome company but why would they do that. Greed perhaps?

You guys def. don't seem to be the only ones... Reputable shop here who deals with alot of WRX's/STi's was a authorized dealer and avid Subaru forum visiter and were very unhappy with their dealings with APS yet liked their products as well... And seemed that folks from the Subey world were not to happy either from what they told me.

It did not surprise me, then coming on to this site and seeing what was going down back when they were members here... And the silly arguements that took place, turned me off from them even more

Well if you look at the Suby forums, you will see that people have slowed down purchasing their products..One reason is that the Suby market is just so saturated it is not funny...But thats not the only reason
Cheers Mate,

Gents,

Without any BS, the JWT TT is great and matches that quality of APS. Jim and Clark have excellent customer service as well. Both using Garretts and a lot clooser than 5000 miles away. So in the future this might be a great option. Has worked well for us so far.

Warmly,

Michael
