Default Q about APS TT Kit

Hi guys,

I just got my TT kit and i'm about to start installing it. I got a question about the kit, can i use it without tuning the unichip ? I dont have any unichip tuners around so i wonder if i can drive it w/o tuning or not. I use 94oct gas.

thanks

yeah you can ride it untuned if thats what you mean.................but i would def get it tuned so you can enjoy all the power you can get out of the stock block(400+whp)............so just cruz around untill you find a unichip dealer over the net............my friend harry did the same thing ..........

reccomend getting it dynoed and logging the AF ratio to make sure the out of the box tune is safe.. don't really need a tune unless you are going for max power at the psi level - take into consideration that different temps of the year will impact the tune, for example so if its tuned in the summer aggresively, in the winter you may get into the danger zone.. i had low 10 AF under full boost in the summer, but now have low 11s in the winter.. this is on the stock out of the box tune

Yeah get it tuned. The Unichip and my ECU didn't play nice together when it was first installed so now I have a built engine. It was my fault though. I knew what was up and procrastinated in getting it tuned.

Did you blow the stock engine with the out of the box tune? If so how did that happen?

when you say you use 94 octane gas, is that RON, MON or R+M/2 (us-style)? i see you're in dublin, but i can't remember how they rate it - it thought it was RON, which is *WAY* different than R+M/2. in the US, they say right on the pump which method.

untuned, it 'probably' is set rich. do you have test pipes or an exhaust? that would lean it out some (possibly enough to be an issue). is there no way to find a tuner, perhaps on the continent?

ahm

Nope, I washed the cylinders out and that was it. The car kept smoking like a chimney. So I'll revise my previous statement and say you don't necessarily have to tune it, but just check your A/F,etc.

Wow! I thought you had to run a sub 10 a/f ratio to wash the cylinders? Where you running that rich?

I forget exactly what it was but it was ridiculous. They were like "you really need to bring her in" but I was busy being the hoe while my job pimped me. People at work used to be like, "Did you spill gas on yourself?" Needless to say I learned my lesson but I'll probably never FI a car that didn't come with it stock again.

actually its sold as 100 oct here but i think it should be equivalent w/ the 94 oct in US.

I have a APS 3 inch Dual exhaust w/ 3 inch test pipes.

thanks for the replies, that was helpful.
