Another JWT kit installed!!!! G35coupe
Got my car back from Performance Motorsports yesterday. I want to thank Rob from this board (1G-350z) for hooking me up with the guys from PM. I have to say the guys at PM are very professional and get the job done right. Damon was working on my car and he's like a mad scientist over there. lol I pulled 346hp on the mustang dyno they have and 333lbs of torque and 6.8psi. Was hoping for a higher torque number but I guess it's because of my stock exhaust? So for those wanting to see what the JWT kit does out of the box with no tune on a stock VQ motor, this is it. I have nothing else done to my car but this. They told me they don't do any tuning and leave the settings that Jim Wolf has programmed in the split second box. I don't know whether I'm running rich or lean since the dyno sheet doesn't show A/F which I thought was annoying. They todl me straight pipes would give me another 40hp but I don't want it to be loud and obnoxious. Those that have it, does it make it very loud? Anyway back to the kit. The car idles and runs totally like stock!! The only thing I miss is the exhaust sound that our cars make. It longer has that sweet exhaust sound, it's very quiet, until I pin the pedal and then like everybody says the turbo's scream and you hear a loud flutter from the wastegate. To me it sounds better than a loud obnoxious blowoff valve. I can see that getting annoying quick. I didn't get much chance to really beat on the car yet because I went out drinkign last night and left the car home. But today I'm going to take the car to war and see how it reacts. I can't wait. Basically my opinion is exactly what everybody who has the JWT said already but I just wanted to add that the exhaust tone is no longer there. Would putting test pipes on bring the sound back? Thanks to Nick at PM for being professional and courteous and assuring me if anything ever went wrong, they woudl take care of it immediately with no problem. I spoke to Vinny Ten for awhile and I want to add what a great guy he is. I'm very confident in this shop and their work and I highly recommend them to everyone if you're near by. Last but not least, what I also noticed that's different on the G kit than the Z kit is that the heat shield is different. Instead of one piece like the Z has, the G has two pieces that are shaped like a square, I don't like it much. I'll try and take some pics for you guys. The dual intercoolers can be seen through the front grills on the stock G, but not highly visible as if it were a front mounted. I'm thinking about getting the Nismo front bumper as I believe the front opening are bigger than the stock G ones. Can anybody comment on that? Forgot to mention,

Low torque is not a sign of a restrictive muffler. A restrictive muffler would actually elevate the torque, but take away from the top end hp.
Oh, and they todl you that test pipes are good for extra 40 hp? On a mustang dyno? Without retuning, which they don't do? Are they using some special magic test pipes that noone else has? B/C if that's the case, I want a set too!
Oh, and don't worry about the noise, your turbos would act as mufflers...

I think on this kit he might see an extra 40 hp... with test pipes... They Dyno'd a Z same set with TP's and an Injen SES exhaust they hit 413whp

I asked about raising the boost to 8.5 and he said that would give me another 20hp probably but it's safer for me to leave the boost where it is and add the test pipes which would give another 40hp. Anyway, drove the kit around today and love it so far. One question I have for you guys. I have a bit of a cricket sound coming from my car when I go over bumps and I can hear it real quick when I close my doors. Obviously something is loose. Has anybody had that problem and can tell me what it is so I don't have to bring it back to them for something stupid? Thanks guys. I sometimes also get it at idle but goes away if I hit the gas.
BTW, getting only 20 hp by going from 6.8 to 8.5 PSI, but getting 40 hp from just test pipes... I don't know... But since you are comfortable with it, go for it. But if I were you I would not do anything to ANY setting of the kit if the shop cannot adjust the SS box settings, but that's just my opinion...
40 rwhp is not out of the question. I went from h/f cats to test pipes and gained 40 rwhp and 20 lbs of torque. This was with aps tt @8.5 lbs on the same dynojet I used with the cats.
Oleg,
It is not entirely out of the question to see substancial power increases at lower boost settings with replacing the cats with a straight pipe on a forced induction vehicle. The reduction of back pressure in the ehxaust system will allow the turbos to spool up faster and will allow them to reach full boost much sooner, creating more TQ down low. HP is a measurement of TQ therefore the increased TQ down low would in in fact carry the peak HP numbers higher through the Dyno run.. I do not know if 40whp is feasible, I guess it would be , depending on how restrictive the stock cats and exhaust were.
I know for a fact on a G35 we equiped with an APS tt kit we dynod out of the box at 10psi at 407wrhp, simply be eliminating the aftermarket exhaust he had, and replacing with an APS True dual 2.5" we realized a 32whp gain and re-dyno'd at 439whp so there for a substancial increase is feasable.
After modifying a set up such as the JWT or APS kit, a good re-tune is always recomended, since you are seing higher boost levels and sooner in the RPM range. The Timing at peak TQ (4800rpms) may need to be adjusted as well as the A/F ratios. Hope this helps...

congrats on the kit! cant wait to see it in person! testpipes are great made my na car 25% louder w/ stock exhaust and should do verry little to increase the exhaust note on your TT car but will def. not bring the stock sound back it will sound much meaner not bad at all.. if you had stock intake on the G it has huge resonators on it also that takes away from your stock sound.. nismo front for the G is similar but bigger spaces in the front you are rite.. when you get board of this power see what plenum or spacer, pullys and cams will do

I see my exhaust pipes getting blacker than usual already. MRC, do you guys have a dynojet there? I'd like to get my car on a dynojet to see what numbers I can get and also see the A/F.

Hey congrats on the kit glad to see another jwt around here. Yeah you should definately consider test pipes. Like Rob said I pulled 413 w/ test pipes and an injen ses. And its not loud or obnoxious at all. In fact I wish it were louder!! I will pm you with the resonated test pipes I got if you would like. They were very cheap and gave my great numbers. Well enjoy the car and maybe we'll can all meet up soon and cruise...that is when I put my car back together ...

Try to swing it by a DynoJet, so see what type of industry standard power that kit is making.
