Try calling Vortech . They can give you the part number for the K&N filter . Then you can go from there

BH040-350 Air filter, 3.5"FLG x 4.5L. offset

That's off the Vortech kit parts list. Don't know if that's a Vortech part # or a K&N part #. Tried the K&N website? Let us know what you come up with.

When you say "shorter", I am asuming you are using the G35 Vortech Filter: 8H040-35, Air Filter, 3.5" Flange, G35, Offset, 3.7" It does make for easier changing.

I am starting to think that Vortech had previously received and has been shipping the 8H040-35 which was not supplied by their supplier with the proper spec (i.e. 3.7"). Why? I took some measurements.

I always order my filters from Vortech. Usually two (2) per order. The 2nd, from a previously order was due to be changed. So, given the recent thread and posts I decided to change, measure and compare. Checked previous and current invoice. Invoices showed 8H040-35, Air Filter, 3.5" Flange, G35, Offset, 3.7". After measuring, overall length of filter from previous order measured 4.0", while filters from current order/invoice measured 3.7".

Don't know if 4.0" Vs 3.7" makes a difference on a G35, but is it significant on 350Z. I had done some Dremel work on the plastic radiator support in front of the blower to make changing filters easier. However, crimping/bending the element did occur. NO crimping/bending occured with filters received on current order.

Checked with K&N and they have part # RU-4410 which measuures 3 1/2" mounting flange, 3 5/8" overall height and 3 1/2" (outer dimension) inlet.. The 3 5/8" is the critical dimension for installing into the limited space available..Cost is $27.33 + shipping..

I have tried the RU-4410. Cone is considerably smaller in length and diameter. My concern was the filtration and the reduction in air flow into the blower. It does fit and allows for easier changing. I would rather use the Vortech filter along with the Dremel work, plus loosening the two bolts on the
radiator plastic/steel support and moving frame to the front of the vehicle. NO fitment problems NOW!

Thought I would post comparison pic of the Vortech 8H040-35 and K&N RU-4410 Filters. My concern, not knowing the air flow requirements of the Vortech SC Blower, does the RU-4410 meet the requirements?

Honestly, I do not think that will make a difference in the amount of flow to the blower.

+1...I would have to agree . I bought one of the smaller filter and never did put it on , because it just didnt look like it had enough surface area to flow enough air

The filter on the left is the filter that Vortech is selling as the G35 Filter (8H040-35). I have had the Vortech SC installed for 18 months, so can't speak to what filter is currently being supplied with the 350Z Kit.

Changing or cleaning the 350Z filter in the past was a royal pain in the azz. Blower removal was required. I elected to go with the RU-4410 until air flow became an issue. As I previously posted, took a Dremel to the plastic protecting the radiator support, moved the support forward and now using the G35 filter.

How did you move the support forward?
Could you please post a pic of this, as this is something I am interested in doing as well.

Looked at mine last night and the one on the left is the one that came with my kit..I have a 350Z ..Notice it has an offset mount (not in the center) ..I would also question the air flow on the k&n one..Also the k&n having less surface area would clog up sooner than the other one..Second the pics of your dremelliinng. Thanks

Quoted part number as SungNamZ says is 8H040-035 for the G and from the Vortech manual is 8H040-350 for the Z.

However, I think they actually ship the G filter in all cases now - certainly that's what came with mine when I ordered last September.

The filter currently supplied with the kit is the bigger filter which is on the left, this filter can not be bought through K&N because it is only made for Vortech. With the off set filter that comes with the kit now you do not have to pull the blower off to change the filter.

I will attempt to take some picture of what I dremeled and the two bolts loosened to allow the metal support / plastic shield to be moved forward.

I agree, with the "offset filter" now being supplied with the kit or purchased from Vortech the blower does not require removing to change the filter. However, having done this numerous times, even with the filter offset and without doing some modifications (i.e. dremel), the filtering area will become crimped.

With K&N making this filter specifically for Vortech, it is too bad that Vortech couldn't change the spec from 3.7" to 3.5" or 3.25" while maintaining the current diameter!
