Interesting Info. For FI W/Tranny Problems
I'd started another recent thread regarding a common problem of shifting into 3rd with metallic grinding that's requiring a whole transmission replacement. There seems to be few others with FI with this same problem so I thought I'd pass along with I found out.
For the heck of it, I called Grubbs Nissan/Infiniti dealer in Texas because they're pretty liberal with repairing cars with mods under warranty. The service dept. said I'd definitely need to talk to Nissan Affairs to see if I could get this sycro problem covered.
I next talked to Grubbs parts dept. and Allen who was very helpful said he believe's through seeing other transmissions repaired with the same symptoms and parts they've installed that it's probably just the syncros and shift fork that would need to be replaced not the whole transmission. He gave me prices on just those parts at approx. $105 for the syncros and $103 for both 1-2 & 3-4 shift forks. The shift forks are to repair/resolve the shifter popping or trying to pop out of gear. Obviously a lot less than $1800 for the whole new transmission.
This might be the route I'll take since I probably won't get my dealer to warranty the problem, I'm nervous about them doing work around my TT kit and I'll be getting a new clutch and flywheel installed later this year. Hope this helps anyone with the same dilemma.

The answer I got from my dealer is, Nissan's transmission policy is to replace, not go in and repair. Not detracting from what you said, Brian, just stating what I was told in my case.

I thought it might help fellow FI G/Z owners with the same symptoms and didn't want their dealers to touch their baby.

Will they even replace the tranny if you have FI on the car?
I can however see the usefulness of this info. If my tranny takes a ****, i would rather fix it than replace it at these prices.
