Want to build car the right way!! How much??
My lease is up on my Z in July, I am thinking of buying it out, rather than getting into another car. I absolutly love my Z and I kept it mint, I was thinkin of getting an 06 but Why? It weighs more and I already have a Z. Instead of getting another one I want to build the one I have into a real street machine. When I say that I mean everything: built motor with forged internals, JWT TT kit, suspesion, big brake kit, wheels, and maybe a clean, simple body kit to enhance the great lines on the Z. I would probably put a nice Alpine head unit with upgraded speakers, and maybe an 8 or 10" sub but nothing more to keep the weight down. My question is to those of you who already went this route, Are you happy you did? was it worth the money? and how much can I expect to pay for all that I'm looking to have done?
FYI: My car is a 03 CS Enth. 6spd with 34K miles. It is totally stock except for a CAI. My buy out at the end of the lease is 15,000 I believe.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and giving your input

your looking at $30K-$40K with parts labor. I am happy with the car, but honestly I can't tell you if I would do it again. Some times I think I wouldn't and the second I get in my car, I tell myself it was worth it. If the new Z06 would have been out when I bought my car and I could afford it at that time (I am making more $$ now) I would have got the Z06, slapped on a few bolts and gotten to 550whp.

$30-$40 is a good estimate, and the includes all the little extras that add significant cost to the build up. JWT TT is a great kit for a street machine. Let me know if you interested...we have to have access to a few kits.

Good luck!
Thanks guys for the replies, I estimated in the same ball park as you guys suggested, If I decide to go this route, I will use Performance Motorsports. They are a very respectable shop and I bought my car from their dealership. I notice a lot of guys on this forum have sponserships with big name companies. How do you get these companies to be your sponser, and do they supply parts for you or discount them? Anyway to cut costs, Its like applying for grants and scholarships to go to college. If it helps me to build my car at a better price I'm all for it.
Wow I never thought it would cost so much. Can someone give a breakdown?
7000.00 TT kit
1100.00 cams
4000.00 build bottom end
1000.00 clutch/flywheel
1400.00 exhaust/test pipes
400.00 gauges
Install
3000.00 Turbo kit/ Tune
300.00 (motor out of car) Cams
200.00 install gauges
200.00 install clutch (motor out of car)
100.00 install exhaust/test pipes
This is just my guess
18,700
I would say there is a LITTLE padding in those prices.

Do it....with the right TT kit, tuner and parts, you will be glad you did, ALL of our customers cars we have done this transformation on are VERY happy with the outcome and glad they did. BTW nice choice on the JWT TT kit
Is there a specific order in the build that you guys would recommend? I can't afford to do it all at once, what should I start with? I know I can add the TT kit and keep it at a safe tune without building the motor first, but I would hate to take the chance and worry about my car blowing everytime I drive it. Seems like there are a lot of people with FI who are just waiting for their motors to go so they can build it. I don't understand why you don't build it first than add the TT? Any suggestions.

All you need is a good kit, good shop, a good tuner, and pay attention to your ride. I think most people who have blown their motor didn't have one of the above, or did something stupid (like downshift into 2nd at 80mph).
Now, I will say that I set my boost really low (5-6psi)except for racing.

Coilovers & Sways $3100 w/install
$1850 Wheels & tires w/balancing & alignment
Body Kit $1200 Paint + $1000-1500
BBK $4000-4500
So I guess that'll hover around $30-32K total. I'd say it'd cost a lot less for labor if you do everything at once.
Reading this thread makes me think of all the money have pissed away in the car.
Yet, all my sh*t was a lot more than $30k! Man, my mods could have bought me another spare Z! Yet, it is pretty hard to drive two cars at the sametime.
