I know this has no real bearing on anything in terms of performance, but I consider it worthy as far as being a dailydriving test.
When you're on the highway cruising 70-85mph depending on traffic or if you're passing etc. Most of the time I won't bother to downshift from 6th gear.
I saw a ST video of someone on the highway in 6th gear at 2500 rpms and then floored the pedal while still in 6th gear and it took a couple seconds to creep up to 3200 rpms or so. I mean it was of course better than a stock Z no doubt
I guess what I'm asking is for the ST/TT people - with 3.5 or 3.36 final drives, what is your top gear accelleration like in the 70-85 mph range and what whp/tq are you running? Full boost is supposed to come on in the 3200-3700 range so I can only assume when you floor the gas you feel a pretty strong oomph, but when I was watching the video it looked like it took like 4 sec to get from 70ish-85ish mph.
So how do you think the accelleration in 6th gear at that speed range fares? Is it pretty decent or does it really not start feeling like it's doing a lot until you're above 85mph?
my vortech setup with 450whp/360tq (ballpark) and the 3.9 gears seems very responsive in 6th gear in the 70-85mph range. I get a lot of response when I give it some gas. I'm curious if taller gearing and turbo tq are better under your typical highway circumstances, it seems like they should be, but I started thinking people with 3.36 gearing are going to be at much lower rpms when cruising and they might not have all that much boost unless they downshift.
I'm assuming a TT and especially the JWT would be pretty amazing at this sorta thing

at 80mph in 6th gear I hit full boost when I floor it......and after that the acceleration is more than necessary. Other than that, it's laggy from 2500-3000rpm, which is normal.
I've got the 3.5 gears.
I've got the 3.5 gears.
#'s in my sig, passing in 6th now feels better than 5th passing NA. I dont know whos video you saw but STs dont take 3-4 seconds to go up 10mph. Regardless this is kinda dumb, no point in boosting in 6th gear at low rpm's when you can just shift to 5th and go-less strain on the motor.

no it was like 3-4 sec to go up like 15mph, not 10
you guys know how highway traffic is, sometimes it's not really worth downshifting if you're just going to have to end up upshifting back to 6th like 1 sec later cause there's a car in front of you. Some days we're just not in a racing downshifting mood cause we didn't get much sleep and are just trying to get to work
I still have another week to wait before I get my 550 injectors installed and tuned. So in the meantime everything I do has to stay under 5000 rpms or I start running too lean up top. Since I can't really push the car like I'd like, this was one of the things I've noticed since getting the vortech that I've been really happy with
anyway, I'm making around 305 tq at 80mph at 3300 rpms then have 3.9 gears on top of that which is a 10% torque increase with the gearing.
80mph with 3.5 final drive is about 3000 rpms. A lot of ST's for instance seem to be making around 280-290tq at that rpm
with the 3.36 final drive, you'd be close to around 2850 rpms with about a 6% decrease in gear torque. A lot of ST's seem to make 270-280tq at that rpm - with the 6% decrease in gear tq
