Default APS TT - Slip/VDC Light Issue

Ever since I installed the kit, I turn on the car and idles perfectly. The slip and VDC lights are off. On a slow role the brakes will start engaging as if the wheels were slipping and then the slip and VDC lights would come on and stay on (very annoying). I can turn the VDC off and on after I start the car but still does the same thing on the role and then the slip light turns on.

I figured out that if I start the car and turn the wheels to the right 2 complete turns, the slip and VDC lights come on and stay on and everything is normal.....that is until I turn the car on again.

Does this happen to anyone? Is this an APS issue? Speed sensors on rear axle?

Quick to blame APS for this cause...

I'm pretty sure its a install problem. Who did the install??

Be like me drive with VDC off all the time, I don't even remember having VDC anymore.

Your problem is when your steering shaft was disconnected it wasn't put back on the same exact spot causing the steering sensor to think that you're driving out of control.

+1 steering, you might be 1 or 2 notches too far over.

No one is blaming anyone.

I just wanted to know if this was something that fellow APS owners have dealt with.

I have this exact problem, but haven't fixed mine as I am waiting on a tranny. It is exactly what narkotic said.

Whenever you disconnect the steering, it is possible to misalign it when hooking it back up. The problem is that if it is misaligned, the Steering Position Sensor tells the VDC system that you are turning when you are not. This causes the VDC to trip out on you and exhibit the slow speed braking.

You can take it to a dealership and have them correct it. They will basically hoop up the Consult II and reprogram the steering position to within +/- 2.5 degrees of 0 degrees (straight) with the steering actually straight.

The whole process takes seconds if they have some time, but will more than likely cost you a little money.

Or you can play with the notches until you get it right.

Thanks. I will take it by the dealer and have them recalibrate it for me.

The problem lies on the fact that the Steering angle sensor is located/incorporated to steering wheel. The encoder is transmitting the angle to ECU. When U remove the steering link by mistake wheel can turn 360 degrees. This is causing the malfunction. VDC is translating this as a malfunction and immediately disengage the system.

The Consult II is used only when you change this sensor inside the steering wheel in order to allign it correctly.

The simplest way to solve this is turn the steering wheel one turn, after removing again the link. By try and error you will find the correct position.

BE CAREFULL: If you will overturn the steering wheel, about 3 turns from center, the ribbon that is transmitting the info will be broken. It is quite sensitive. Then U have to change the sensor. If this happens all the info from steering wheel is broken, so stereo, cruise control and horn is also not working.

ok so if its the steering position sensor causing the light to come on.... would it fix the problem if you got a wheel alignment?

We had a similar issue on a car, and we never removed the steering knuckle, we did the grinding in the car. The issues we were having are ABS related.

Im having a major issue with this. Here's my story:
I had test pipes installed. and while uninstalling them to go back to stock...the steering wheel was turned i'd say atleast three to four times in one direction without the steering shaft being connected. the Slip, VDC, and Airbag lights came on. Took it to Infiniti and they said that i needed a new clock spring. Got the clock spring replaced through a mechanic nearby and the airbag light went out but the slip and vdc stayed on. So...took it back to infiniti and they said that now i have to get my steering angle sensor replaced. that will cost about $725 total. Apparently they already tried to recalibrate it (which i dont believe) so the only solution is to get it replaced. Any help?
