UTEC for beginners?
Well here's the deal.
I'm about to install the TN ST on my Z, along with the UTEC, RC550 inj, AAM fuel return, exhaust, plenum spacer, oil pan spacer, pulley set, gauges (fuel pressure, boost & wideband), iridum plugs ect..
The thing is I live in Denmark and no tuner here has ever worked on the UTEC. And also I hate to just drop off my car and have the tuner do everything, so I wont understand what he did. The whole project is a hobby for me, its not just about going fast. I get alot of amusement out of doing it myself, instead of having some shop do everything. I want to understand everything that is going on with my car. Even though I have very little experience when it comes to tuning, I have been studying it hard for the last period of time.
Even if I found a decent tuner around here, who will know what parameters to change like timing, A/F ect., he wont know how to do it since he never worked on the UTEC before. Also it would be much more expensive to have him do everything than if I booked a dyno and do it myself. well maybe not 100% by myself, but working together with the tuner when help needed.
So my question is if ppl think I would be able to try it myself?
I will upload a base map designed for the TN kit, so its not like I'm making it from scratch.
I'm thinking that if I put in very conservative values on all the major settings like A/F, timing and so. wouldn't it be safe to do a dyno run and take it from there? changing things little by little and dynoing it over and over again, untill I've reached the desired tune?
I could always post the dyno graphs along with my map and other important factors like humidity, temp ect. on here. I know we have alot of competent people on this board who might be able to help out.
Oh yea, almost forgot. Is there somewhere I can find a good write up on the basics with UTEC? Something easy to understand for a rookie, maybe even a walk through tuning process?
Thats about all, let me know what you guys think about everything. Thank you.
