want to get rid of FMU on Vortech
Hi guys,
I was doing a little reading on the vortech fuel system and honestly don't feel too comfortable with the stock system. I feel like there's just a lot that can go wrong with the current setup especially since I'm running the 3.12 pulley.
I would like the ditch the FMU and the inline pump assembly completely if i can. I'm not too knowledgeable on this topic, but I was thinking about going 440 injectors with the 255 walbro pump. What else do I need to make this happen? A fuel pressure regulator i think? I'll still need a ecu reflash from TS for the larger injectors. I know theres a kit out there by AAM, but the price seems a bit steep and it doesn't seem like it comes w/ injectors or an upgraded fuel pump either, is this kit a must? Any thoughts would help

you can do...walbro and bigger injectors , with a TS flash to scale the injectors only and continue using the SS box . This will work with out going to a return fuel system
With this solution I don't need the fmu? Is the SS box capable of running the larger injectors even while in boost as long as they're not maxing out?

In that thread the OP was trying to have the full tune flashed in the stock ECU . If you have them flash to scale the injectors [ONLY] for idle and start up and tune with the SS box , you should be fine .You can only tune with the cars ECU to a certain point and then you start to run out of adjustment for fuel

A shop with the right tools probably could scale the 440's with the R4 [ SS box ]

so the line that goes the the inline fuel pump currently for the SS box isn't used at all w/ this setup right? Is anyone else on these forums running this fuel setup w/ a vortech? Any idea if theres any issues with driving w/ the 440 injector ecu reflash on stock for a short time? I live really close to technosquare and would rather drive there to get my ecu reflashed.
While the shop is putting back the fuel lines to stock and adding the injectors and walbro pump . Take out the ECU and run it over to TN . Not sure if it will start and idle . And if it does ,it will be super rich and may go into limp mode
I sent mine to them and it came out perfect . I have the 550's

what about using an FMU with a return system.
That is how all the blowers kits work on mustangs through 98....and they worked great, too.
as boost rises, the fmu increases the fuel pressure, thereby getting the injector to squirt more fuel during the same pulse.
It is simple and effective.
Can our injectors take really high fuel pressures? My cobra would hit 100+ psi at about 10 psi.

Is there a need for a fuel pressure regulator if I'm dumping the vortech fuel system for just larger injectors and pump? Or does this work for return fuel systems only? I was kinda wondering about that, an upgraded pump and injectors are enough to match/surpass the fuel delivery of the vortech system without raising fuel pressure? This might be a noob question
