HKS DLI II & Stillen S4?
Hi all,
I'm ready to order the Cusco Oil Catch Can and the HKS DLI II. Are these two items recommended and would they work with the Stillen s/c'er s4 FX35?
TIA.

Will the DLI also improve the performance a little at the upper rpm range?
???
Thanks all for the help.

no, and really it won't make a difference because the stillen doesn't make it's power up top, and pretty much never will.

However I think the DLI II would be good for the Stillen. I'm not saying you're going to get any power out of it, but I thought I remember reading somebody had plug life issues, carbon deposits, which the DLI would help prevent with the enhanced spark. I think it'd be a worthwhile addition to any FI system.

Not much but I'm seeing 8.2psi of boost using a physical gauge at 6.4K rpm with the S4 so it is kinda getting up there where a stronger spark might be beneficial. Also, I noticed that the engine doesn't always run as smooth at around 7K rpm as usually it does - not major but the engine sometimes seems to hesitate/flutter a little at around these rpms and I'm trying to figure out if it is related to bad gas, weak spark or such. This happens before the rev limiter kicks in, hence looking into these two additions.
Okay, catch can is out but still checking into the HKS DLI.

a cheaper, easier fix is to simply close the gap in your spark plugs a little, say from .035" to .032". Make sure you're running Iridiums 1 step colder.
I still say the DLI is not necessary because you're simply not making enough pwoer or flowing enough air to overpower the stock ignition (which is pretty damn powerful!)

Wouldn't closing the gap a bit cause a loss of power? Already running a step colder NGK plugs but might get those replaced at the same time if I go with the DLI.
Thanks for all the help. It is much appreciated

Have installed the dli on one vortech, three stillen stage 4's. noticeable improvement in overall crispness of throttle response and does pull a bit harder up top on the roots. Decreasing gap does have it's merits, but if going too small you can trigger a phantom P0300

I have it on mine as well. I do not why it is always about power. I thought FI was about choice. If someone decided to install something it is there choice. Whether it helps with low or high HP should never be an issue. Does anyone need a BBK on a stock Z, no, but it is all about choice. Do we need 500HP to go to work, no, it is all about choice. You mention SC and the first answer you get is you do not make enough power. I am finished modding my car, if I had it to do over again I would leave it stock and that is without even driving it. Lost my motivation to mod reading all these negative threads.

Gap has been done .001 or .002 wider than stock by other DLI users. I think stock is .043

Thanks, rookie. I was thinking .042 to .044 would be fine. Ordered the NGK Iridium one step colder and will check before install. They are listed as "These come pre-gapped for our direct coil over plug ignition system (.040-.044)".

Stage 4 stillen, Gap is 0.28 on one step colder plugs. Runs well. Ordered the DLI from AA but they sent me the wrong unit, will be sending me the proper one this week.
with it i was going to gap the plugs a 0.30 to 0.31.

hmm... I don't see it anywhere in the Stillen instructions to close the gap that much. I've looked in the service manuals for various VQs and they all say .043 is nominal. Not saying you're in the wrong but that's pretty far off from stock, maybe someone in the know has more info on closing the gap more than stock when using the Stillen.
This is from the 05 350Z service manual
