Default Project Double Down Does Formula D...NASCAR

Hello,

As you may know, we have been getting more and more involved with Drift and have met some great folks.
After Co-Hosting a Drift-Day, Naoki from the Drift Association asked if we wanted to participate in the Drift VS Grip Showdown at Irwin-dale...
We of course jumped at the opportunity and brought two VRT Star Cars for the event.

350zNv's Modified Featured "Project Double Down Car"

and

Eagle1's White Beauty whom has graced the pages of both Sports Compact and C16 Auto-style.

So, Last week, we were in the mix with the greatest Drifters in the world and Champion NASCAR CUP racers.
350zNV's car was a hit and NASCAR's Robby Gordon, Casey Mears, and Scott Wimmer literally went out to learn to Drift.
Thanks MB for letting us have some fun with Your Baby. Hope you enjoy this video as much as we enjoyed making it.

Special Props to:

Mike B (She Ran Great), Ed Reeser (No Ed we didn't drift your beauty, she just looked pretty in the pits) Scott, Frick, and Gary (NM Drift)

Thanks to:
Scott Wimmer
Robby Gordon
Casey Mears
Falken Tire
JWT - Jim and Clark
Taka - Will build you a sick Formula D Car ASAP
Stretch
Irwin-dale
Drift Association
Diane (NASCAR)
Jay - Sports Compact
Steve Levy- C16
Derek - DSport
Mike - Modified
Bob and Tammy
Viet, Ralph, and Beau - Drift Day
Brian at Mackin
Tanner Foust (looking to sweeten the ride soon)
M. Smartt - Photos Drift Day
And More.

Peace

M

Nice vid! Mike's Z is badass, one of my favorites. Pretty cool to see a personally owned car out there with the big sponsored cars.

Yeah...

Was really cool. Out of the 20 cars Presented to the Drift Associate, Irwindale, and NASCAR CUP, Mike B's 350Z was the only car picked, Other than Eagle's G35 - yet he wished not to share her (Don't Blame him) that wasn't a Pro Formula D car.

Thanks Scott for going in the infield and encouraging the drivers Casey Mears, Robby Gordon, and Scott Wimmer to Drive.

It was funny, they all were having the damnedest time, first time I think some of them, for sure, Scott Wimmer ever even had driven a turbo car.

Thanks Again.

if you want to stick with drift, your car looks a little low on angle, you should call battleversion.com and get some tie rods for your car. it will really make the car more enjoyable to play with, and less prone to spinning out. welcome to the world of drifting, i hope you like it and stick around.

Thats f**king awesome hahahah! Man, I really wish I could have gone to watch all of that.

Zilvia - The Nismo lip exploded at 170mph at Cal Speedway a few weeks back . But don't worry, I just picked up a sponsorship from C-West .

rookie- Thanks man!

aaronlosey - Thats my car in the video and it is set up for grip events. VRT will be building their own purpose built drift car soon, but it won't be with my car lol.

It was great. Wish you could have been at Irwindale.

Thanks for the tips. The biggest problem we had that day was tires. Falken was supplying the tires and all they had to fit were 255/40/18 fronts and 295/40/18s rear.

Well the rears wouldn't work so we were using 255 in the rear and kept sticky 285/30/18 Cup tires in the front which made the car twitchy as hell. OVEREEEEEEEERSTEEER

All good, and remember most of the NASCAR guys had NEVER EVER drifted like that which made for an awesome show. They were spinning out in all ofthe car, Falken Mustang, RX7, Red Bull GTO. Was just a fun time and awesome to see Formula D and NASCAR kicking it together.

Thanks Again.

M

Nah, it was fully insured by D1GP. I was kind of hoping they would scratch it up a little so I could get a new paint job and maybe some new parts .

Watch the Video closely, Casey Mears almost hit Robby Gordon in the Blue Mustang.

Really Really Close.

Lol. I was just kidding about the turn left thing.

I am not a big fan of NASCAR but I give them mad props for the effciency of their pit crews and the R&D that goes into those cars.

+1 They really are good drivers as well. Remember, they have two road races a year, so they are more than trained in turning both ways . Besides, how do you think a lot of them got to NASCAR? Not drifting, but other types of racing for sure. Hell, they are even good at off-road racing. Robby Gordon has a pretty good CORR Off-Road team.
