There are no moving parts in this area but just below are the pistons.
Remove the spark plugs & check for signs of damage, you may have cracked off a piece of the top ring land.

you can try to check your valve lashes. If they are out of given specs they will work really loud. So loud that some cars can even detect this as knock, and some ears too. This may let your valves to stick open and well..

If a loud metal sound suddently appeared out of nowhere, you probably have damaged your engine. Bent valve maybe? I would check all the obvious things first...it could even be as simple as minor leak.

Injectors can be loud, but they usually sounds more like a clicking noise..not loud metal on metal. It is really hard to troublshoot a sound over the internet. Even an exhaust leak can sound like rod knock.

White smoke with a blue tinge = oil burning.

Turbocharged motor with white smoke & a loud tapping noise = cracked piston crown.

Remove the spark plugs & check for damage at the tip ( closed gap = loss of power) then carry out compression test.

If you have compression, even low it will not be a bent valve.

If you have no compression, stop guessing & strip her down & all will be revealed

Did you put the bolts back in that hold down the piece of metal inside the plenum? (dont know the official name) I know I forgot to since there were so many bolts laying around after opening the baggy of replacement bolts. Luckily I realized it and removed the top of the plenum and replaced those bolts before I was finished
