Your APS ST is like a Burmuda triangle!! Nobody can figure out what's going on in there... I feel bad for you. The way you describe your problem, I can swear it's a boost leak, but I'm sure your mechanic checked several times already....

thanks for your input though
I am not contradicting myself. The exhaust is a must regardless of your situation.

Your particular symptoms seem like they would be more install related than strictly related to the exhaust. That said, the exhaust could be contributing to the low boost levels.

Like I stated, it seems like you are making only spring pressure. I think you have the boost control solenoid improperly installed. That is not to say it couldn't be a number of other things causing this. It is hard to diagnose things over the net with very limited info and not seeing the car in person.

Regardless whether you have an issue or not, buy the exhaust before you get your car tuned

I would suggest getting a new clutch and flywheel if you already havent. You will have to take out the turbo if you do it later. Which will cost you a ton of money in labor. So I would suggest to get those things as well.

Sorry u r having similar issues to most people. Typical BS from from these APS nut huggers is "bad install". How crappy is a kit that only a few shops can install it correctly? Sam is known to be a great tuner so I hope he can help. If not GRD seems to be the best at installing these kits.

Nice post

You tell me what it sounds like. He has the kit isntalled by a non APS dealer. He has a 3rd party exhaust that has who knows how much backpressure, especially if installed with the adapter. He hasn't even attempted to troubleshoot for even so much as a boost leak, or to confirm the boost solenoid is wired properly. There are numerous install related things that could cause symptoms like he is seeing and you call the kit crappy. Word has it, some know-nothing farmer from the snowy tundra MN installed one of these without a single issue

I have a test he can run. Find the vacuum line from the boost solenoid that runs to the actuator, get a small vise grip and pinch the line. Take the car for a spin and see if you make more than 4 lbs of boost.

Not to be a complete @ss, but I doubt the OP even knows what a wastegate, actuator, or boost solenoid is.

*Update*

sam go the car boosting to 9lbs yesturday and running well. He put it on the dyno last night and it was only making 5lbs of boost again. The car is smoking pretty bad from the exhaust after driving it around for a while. we originally thought it was from excess oil on the turbo but we dont think thats the case now.

on the dyno it made 323 to the wheels which isnt bad for 5lbs but we cant figure out the smoking and why we lost the boost from yesturday. please help!

why not? look at the where the turbine housing bolts to the downpipe, if it looks like its saturated with oil thats the problem, plus it could be that the whole downpipe is covered in oil and its taking a while to burn off.

sam drove it around for an hour and it was still smoking, how long would something like that take to burn off?

More than an hour. A couple of days maybe, thats how long mine took. If the consistency is there then you have other issues. If it seems like the smoke wears off than your golden..

Mine smoked for a while, but gradually disappeared. Check the electronic solenoid and the scavenge pump. If there is too much oil in the exhaust take them down and wipe it clean.
