I have a stage 4 stillen runing a ported blower and a 9 lb pulley. I had my ecu flashed at i over reved it in 3 gear at 7100 and hit the limiter a few times. My car is now burning oil and i have 154 lbs compresion in #2 cylinder. The passenger side is at 180 and the other 2 on the drivers side are 174 and 172. The #2 spark plug is foulded and looks terrible. But it has not thrown a check engine light for a misfire. i have a HKS DL 11 and wondering if this is why the moter has not shown a check engine light yet.
It blows smoke on start up and once the engine warm up it drives fine, but when is step into it blows smoke as i accelerate and change gears under hard acceleration.
Has this happened to any buddy else ? Not sure if is a bent valve, valve seal or a week ring?
looking for advice before i pull the engine out.
I put in a royal purple 15/ 40 oil with lucas synthentic oil treatment and it has helped a little bit.
thanks

I think you blew a ringland or lost a ring. Luckily it sounds like the cylinder walls are not too damaged, since you have some compression and the motor is not shaking? I caved in the piston on the same cylinder which is the furthest cylinder from the 7th injector.
Cost me a block since doing the .20 overbore did not get rid of the pitting the detonation did to the cylinder wall. I would stop driving around, if the walls are damaged in anyway you may be making them worse and cost you a block as well. My damage was almost instant, limped off the freeway and had it towed home.

he says when he cranks it up in the morning there is a little bit of (engine oil smoke not condensation) doesnt that mean oil is leaking past the seal into the exhaust? thats what ive herd....i had a very similar problem that your having..
I recentley did a compression check on my 04 aps tt and after 30k with the tt setup all 6 cylinders were 180psi. I also run 10-12 psi on a stock block with 476rwhp.. Does anyone know what the stock specs are for the motor? I'm guessing around 190-200psi...

The spark plug is foulded in a black oilly film.
that oil film on the spark plugs is not good at all,,,,get that thing in the shop and drive it very easy...the reason it smokes bad on the start is because oil has leaked down the cylinder into the exhaust and burns away when you crank it up...and the cylinder is working extra hard is why your smoking when you give it gas....if you drive normal the car will not smoke because its not working hard....
is it oil smoke when you get on the gas?
black smoke mixed with oil smoke?
if you let your car idle...after a few minutes does your car do anything out of the norm? shake?smoke? just at and idle tho

it idles fine and it has power. 900 rpm. I dynod the car the first night after it started to smoke and it made 302 rwhp on a stillen ported SC making 9 lbs of boost. I had no indication that any thing was wrong with the car till i filled his shop with the smell of burning oil and lots of smoke. Have i have 500 km on it with no problems other than the smoke. When i had royal purple oil in it the smoke appeared to be of a light purple colour when i hit the gas. I have my drag day coming this Sat. and not sure what to do. I can run it doen the track at 18 seconds in the braket races as i am second in points. it will hurt not to race this weekend, but i do not want to blow it up. It will be a very expensive tow back home.
see your problem isnt big yet....you are noticing the problem before it escalades...oil on plugs (BAD) burning a little bit of oil(sometimes normal) car is fine but smokes bad when you work it hard...(probably not good) perfomance cars can go through oil.......
but.....low compression and your cars symptoms are leading you down rebuild alley if you dont find the problem.....and im almost positive if its a ring or seal it doesnt effect the performance of the car, you just keep burning through oil like a motha fer and then it happends..........
its up to you man, my dad once said "a car runs its best right before she goes"

You probably chipped a ring land, and the ring is the only thing holding your cylinder together. Get a new shortblock ASAP.

Will not race the car this weekend.
I have a spare engine and will have it installed next week.
The only place to get good advice when you are not sure is on this forum.
Thanks.

Hey rookie..do you still have that motor? pm me, I may buy it.
Back to the question at hand, I agree, probably a ringland. SEVERAL vq35's that we tear down that have run F/I have broken middle ringlands. The main symptom of this scenario is low compression and black oil smoke out the exhaust. I have heard the presumed diagnosis of "bad rings" several times on this forum, I have only seen one motor with bad rings with the ringland intact...almost every single stock motor that has these symptoms will have a compromised ringland. At first, the broken ringland will remain snugged between the cylinder wall and the piston, but eventualy (if not already), the ringland will fragment off and either find its way below the piston (may break an oil squirter and then rest in the lower oil pan...or worse off, migrate up and bounce around between the piston and the cylinder head, chiseling the cylinder head into destruction- DON'T START THIS MOTOR AGAIN!
Let us know if we can help...we have built motors in stock!
