Default UTEC vs. F con SZ

Alright.. my search for the perfect EMS continues... I narrowed it down to UTEC and F con SZ. I would like to know the pros and cons of Fcon SZ.
I learned that F con SZ's resolution is better than UTEC. FconSZ also has a target AFR function. Fcon SZ can't raise the rev limit. Anything else?
I'm leaning towards the Fcon SZ because in South Korea, tuners have experiences with Fcon, but never touched UTEC before....

I heard the almight Sharif (Forged Internals) is ditching his UTEC for an Fcon. He would probably be a great sorce of info on this subject. I personally just ordered a UTEC for my Vortech.

I previously ran the SZ in my car. The only reason it is out now is because I upgraded to the VPro. Let me know if you want to know any more info...I have mine for sale too.

FOR THE fcon vpro, note that.... UTEC is about 800-900 bucks.... FCON VPro 2999(with harness and all)

PLUS tunnin is more expensive.... if he is willing tpo shell that much then FCON vpro... regular fcon cz... nah id say the utec is better...obviously for an ECU that costs that much everythign in the tunning is a hell of a lot more smooth. But as i said for that price range of 1k the utec is the way to go

*edit*
I jsut notices you said yoru tunner are more confrotable with the FCOn.. if thats the case then go for it....

The UTEC's resolution is only limited by the Hyperterminal, the method in which it interfaces with the lap top...A new version of full windows based software comming after SEMA will put the UTEC on par with systems twice its price. The resolution will vastly be improved as well as many added featurs, like Auto A/F ratio.

Also, I don't care about the price... I can pick up a used Fcon SZ for like $350 from the Japanese auction. I don't know the price of the Fcon harness though...

As far as the control go... I know UTEC takes full control after a certain RPM... But what about the Fcon SZ? Does it do ecu offsetting?

damn I miss being in Korea.. I was just there this summer and lots of good shops over there. And customer service is nothing you have to worry about when you are in Korea lol. I was going to actually ask you for a ride and everything but I had to come back early anyways, go with which every system the tuner has experience in. I think that would be your best bet because if you are not tuning by yourself, I believe that the tuner is more important the system it self.

Glad you had a good time in Korea... As you said... Tuner's familiarity with F con is why I'm leaning towards the F con SZ. The tuner also has a base map for the 350z single turbo (GT35R). This shop just produced their own single turbo kit for 350z, G35.

Check it out:

I gotta say that the intake pipe that crosses the front of the engine is a way better idea then my turbonetics kit. With the pipe located like that, you can fit an aftermarket radiator with NOO problem. Thats sweet, must be a good shop b/c the kit looks quality.

Utec, you can make your own adjustments. Fcon you have to go to a tuner with a key. Worse than Microsoft if you ask me. The dos interface in the utec is horrible but it does the job and does it well.

Yeah, It's an official Gemballa porsche tuning shop... That says it all.
They make all kinds of turbo, supercharger kits.. I just talk to the owner and he said bring anything.. UTEC including.... They can tune it... So, I'm gonna go with UTEC... Especially so if UTEC is coming out with new windows software with more functions!! Thanks guys..

p.s. I'll make a separate thread for the Korean VQ turbo kit...

the UTEC is very easy to use and totally end-user adjustable.

If you are a tweaker, the UTEC is a great choice....it does have some limitations, but for the money, it can't be beaten!

also, it sounds like Julian has some inside info on the UTEC upgrades. I am looking forward to the big update!

Not everyone can tune HKS FCON EMS'. You have to be certified to get the HKS key. It's my understanding that only 3-4 people are certified in the US.

Once tuned with the FCON you should never have to go back.

Hey MRC, where can I find more info about this? This is super exciting! I have been waiting for Turboxs to make a win-base interface for a long time. I'm thrill!!!!!!!

leeboy, given your far away location, I would use whichever EMS your shop is most comfortable with. Nothing is worse than giving a shop a new EMS, and expecting them to pick it up quickly, and deliver a good tune. At moderate boost, you should be fine with either system, but check with your shop.

I would recommend the FCon SZ if that is what your shop is familiar with and it seems like you can get it at a good price. The SZ is still and awesome piggy back and if they have never tuned a UTEC I don't think you want them learning on your car

Good luck!
