Default Single disc clutch for big power???

Is there any built motor guys running single disc clutches over 550whp with any success? I'd really like to avoid the complexity and added cost of a twin or triple carbon clutch with my build. I searched to no avail.

well man, i have an RPS single in my car, it is the top of the line RPS with 6 puck disc....

it holds a nice amount of power but it sucks to have clutch issues. my honest opinion would be to try to get at least a tilton twin disc for the Z32 if i am correct. it sucks that the clutches cost so much but it sucks even more to have power that you cant use.

i would turn my boost up to 24 psi right now if i could get it to hold, but it only holds 17...

Do you know what the clamping force of that pressure plate is? Also is the six puck metal, carbon, kevlar or a combo?

yeah man, it was the top of the line, they really cant rate what they are good to TQ wise because they have to know the weight of your car to do it, its amazing that i can run 3 more psi by just taking weight out of the car...

before the cage/fuel cell etc, i could only run 13.7 psi, now it is holding 17...

crazy, it sucks but i would try to get a good clutch, pm me if you want a good deal on a good one, i will hook it up for sure. just send me what you want and i will find out how much on it. i dont even care about making anything, i just hate to see someone with my EXACT same problem now where you know the car is more powerful but you are limited to what the clutch will hold....

I made a long thread about this a while back and decided that anything past 550 or so whp and I'd just go with a twin disc carbon setup to avoid any future headaches. It's really hard to gauge how well any of these clutches hold up to power due to the fact that everyone has their own driving habits and you can't tell if they actually broke it in correctly.

I am trying the Clutchmasters FX400 so I will see how much it holds hopefully this week, we have an intergra using the FX400 and he is making 515 on our Mustang dyno and holding and his is a drag car.

Teg is a much lighter car...hmmm...a LOT less torque too. The single disc proposition doesn't look so promising...let us know how it goes

Brian-I went through this same issue. Having no previous experience with carbon cluthes before this ATS-->now Carbonetic, clutch I was weary, especially of having to "heat up" the clutch before hard use ie. drag runs @ track. Only other option besides RPS (which is a POS IMO cant even handle 13-17psi on Jeremy's car and he shifts like my sister) and Carbonetic as far as an organic clutch was the JWT clutch, not the one you have but JWT offers a heavy duty pressure plate for something like $350 IIRC. Not really talked about or run in this community alot but they do offer it, no real whp rating but Im almost positive it was deisgned to handle their JWT kits with the bigger snails. It's either chance that and save coin, or get bent over for $2000+ on a double/triple disck clutch. I dont really like the carbon clutches for dragging, but I have to def change my shifting habits and actualy warm up (burn!) the clutch next time. Good luck.

How long does a carbon clutch last if we warm them up before racing? I would think slipping them at 2K would kill the life spam.

Supposedly the last clutch you'll ever have to buy. Obviously the carbon clutches grab harder when warm.

Considering Ive spent 2K in the Tilton before swapping to the ATS Twin set-up (replacement parts cause the ceramic disks are so brutal I killed them in daily driving) I hope so...hehe

SPEC has a single disc level 5 thats good for arround 720ft/lb's I think thats what Im gonna try out. I'm in the final stages of my build and I realy doubt the JWT HD clutch (mentioned above) will hold any thing close to that. It's rock solid at 400 ish ft/lb's. I think you will smoke it like nothing tough once you start getting arround 500ft/lbs.

If the SPEC clutch goes, I've been eyeing the Clutchmasters FX600 bonded organic/kevlar twin.

i could out shift your sister with my feet... i actually like to start a bit easier and work my car faster, which IMO is a smarter idea, because i actually have more than a 1/6th of a mile time slip man.

i keep shifting faster and keep letting the gas pedal stay closer to the floor through shifts every time i run. i really probably would have raped the gear box if i didnt see your video though.

yeah bri, let me know when you round up a little dough and i will help you get what you need or at least show you what i can get and for how much.

good luck man

It's not so much the disc as it is the clamping force of the pressure plate. I can't seem to find any 3000lb+ pressure plates. I'm going to do some more research though.

They have an upgraded heavy duty clutch disc. I have not heard of an even heavier pressure plate, however.
