Default FI with Stock '06 Wheels

Just out of curiosity... I hear a lot about going with much wider tires than a stock Z comes with when going FI, and I was wondering if anyone here went FI and kept the stock wheels? I Remember seeing an '06 PPW TT Sleeper, which is basically what I'm going for. I wanted to know how well the regular 06 wheels held up getting grip with FI, and also if anyone has the track model '06 wheels, and how those worked for you? Do they grip well enough with a good set of tires? Just looking for anyone's opinion, I'm not looking to put out ridiculous HP, anywhere from 300-400 whp. Thanks

I'm on the 19" stocks in my G, pushing 363 rwhp from my JWT TT kit, and no problems. Sure, if I floor it in 1st or 2nd, I get some spin, but no serious drama

Damn, seriously? I didn't expect it to be bad past 3rd, that's nuts. What kit do you have and how much HP?

Otherwise, thanks for the input everyone, I don't have any particular plans on drag racing it (though that could change), but I do want to be able to launch pretty damn quick. Anyone have any experience with the '06 track wheels? Thanks

You wouldn't want to drive aorund with drag radials on a day to day basis, especially with rainy weather.

Leave VDC on and drive with caution. My friend used to have a Revup TN Z with 265/40 BFG radials as a DD, never had any issues with nearly 400whp.

06' track rims are 19" in the rear, no DR's made in 19", so unless he decided to try his fate with some 275's on the stock wheels, Id advise against this. Wider wheel isnt always better, its all in the tire. A 265 DR on an 8" rim has more straight line grip than a 9.5" rim with a 275 series tire in the rear.

ya thats true, I have the 06 with the 10' by 19' rear wheel with the
265/35 R19 tires I have tacked it still easy to spin in first but they grab in second pretty good for stock. People tell me that they hook up better than the old wheels.
I haven't driven the early ones buy hey 265 wheel is not to bad?
there is a guy selling them check it out

Is there any particular reason DR's aren't made in 19"? As in, like something that would cause them never to be made in 19"? I didn't know this though, thanks for the info.

^ because most people running DR's are looking to run the fastest times. Running 19's would slow people down.

If you want to keep the stock wheels' look you can get your stock wheels widened. There's a post about it a long time ago, search for it in the wheels forum.
