Default Twin Disk Carbon recommendation

I know alot of you are running the ATS twin carbon. Are there any other I should consider? The GTM Exedy seems a little out of my price range. Any vendors have the ATS twin IN STOCK? I would want it by tuesday or so.

Thanks,

j

Jonathan,
I have the ATS twin and I love it. I also know the Exedy is a very solid setup. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these setups.
Call Sharif @ Forged Performance. He can tell you if he has it in stock. If not, I am sure there are plenty of vendors in the vendor section that could help you out. Try Function Tuned in Sterling, VA or maybe a shop closer to you for pickup.

Good luck,

ATS no longer makes these clutches. They are now made by Carbonetic.

It's just a branding change. These clutches are actually made by a company in Japan called Across. They used to brand them as ATS, and now they switch the branding to Carbonetics. They are identical.

It took a couple years for the ATS name to grow on me...and then bam.....name change to Carbonetics.

ACT either has or is going to be releasing a twin disc carbon clutch setup as well In talking with their Sales Manager at SEMA the price point for theirs is likely to be a bit lower...

Not sure what the twin is rated at but Id say in the neighborhood of 500-600whp easy. I know it held Brents 666whp for a short time span then it slipped a little on the dyno. But I doubt Sharif heated it up for the dyno, I could be wrong though. The twin will handle most peoples needs, I have a triple and like it, its never slipped on the street and it gets easier to drive every day (little over 2000 miles on the set-up now)

Berto is correct, it held my 666whp dyno run, but slipped because it was not warmed up. Sharif says he would not recommend running that much power regularly on it though.
I would say the ATS twin with the 1350kg pressure plate should be good to hold upwards of 500 for street use. I think if you are going to drag or push more then 550whp on a daily basis and like to drive hard, you might want a triple carbon clutch.

I am still NA and may never go FI but i never want to open my tranny again if possible so carbon it is. I am sure it will hold up to my 305 crank hp.

A twin disc carbon will probably last the life of an NA car. I have a customer that tracks his regularly at Road Atlanta and barber, and he LOVES the clutch.....an he is all motor.

That's weird...ACT doesn't make any multi disc setups at the current time. Would be kind of an interesting move for them the jump into the market on a 350Z. The only thing I'd be worried about is that they have zero experience with multi disc setups. Gotta love competition though...that will drop the prices all around.

I thought so too. I talked to Darly Sampson at ACT at SEMA. They have already released a multi disc carbon setup for the EVO and according to him were going to release one for the Z, S2K, STi, etc very soon. I'm pretty sure they already have a proto version for the Z. Their Evo twin carbon disc unit was on display at SEMA.

Not to change the subject, but I have a triple and I was wondering what is the best way to warm it up. I was told just rev up the motor to 4-5K and basically ride the clutch (let it out slowly). I have never done it cuz it just hit me wrong at the time. I don't know much about carbon disc setups. Someone let me know heh...
