Alex,

It is a great post and only solidifies GTM's stance with me and my future goals of going high horsepower with my G.

IMO, there isn't 1 shop on the west coast, other than GTM to have your car worked on.

Thanks for the comments. I have to say that shop choice really depends on your horsepower goals. There are many shops that can build 500rwhp Z's. There are a few shops that can build 600rwhp Z's. There are (off the top of my head) less than 5 shops in the country that can / have the potential to build 700rwhp+ Z's, and yes, GTM is definitely one of them.

Did you upgrade the radiator fans? It sounds like your just having a little problem pulling the heat out from under the hood.

Wow Alex, I miss one of your posts for a day and it is 3 pages long already..
Good information, and thanks a lot for putting it up for us to read. It certainly gives me some things to think about. (I had some very similar overheating problems in Atlanta with the first built engine on the way to NOPI Nationals last year).

Good luck and take good care of her.

Alex - great review, I'm glad she's still running hard. I wish I could come back out that way sometime to see her in person... maybe I'll convince my work that I need more "training" out at IBM... haha

As far as traction goes, why not get some nic 18's and run DR's on the rear, at least for daily driving. Save those blingin 19's for show.

Well the car wasn't really overheating, it just gets towards the hot side due to the displacement, but still in the safe range.

Good luck with your build man. Give me a call sometime.

You SHOULD come back here lol...

I do have a set of custom 18" time attack TE's, wrapped in 265 front KDW2's and 295 rear DR's. But I run my GTS' on the street for more mileage.

I understand your reasoning behind keeping that core. In that case I would DEFINITELY install the HKS fan controller and lower the turn on temp for the fans. I'd also switch to some higher flowing fans as well. A pair of Spal puller fans with a nice aluminum fan shroud would do the trick with the Fan controller running them both at high speed. I don't know if you have also considered running water-meth injection as well. It should help reduce cylinder temps a bit as well while under boost. In all you should be able to mitigate at least most of the potential for overheating for relatively cheap.

I couldn't find the fan controller on any of the board vendors site but here's a listing for $169: http://www.hopupracing.com/hksfanco.html

Heres the data from HKS on it: http://www.hksusa.com/products/more.asp?id=1697

For fans you could a pair of Spal 10" or 12" fans and have Sam or some other decent shop weld up a nice aluminum shroud. Flex-a-lite makes a dual fan unit for the 240SX which should work with some slight modification to the brackets: http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/345-nissan.html

Spal fans are about $150 a piece for the 12" high performance units. Figure another $100-300 for the shroud. So lets say $600 for the fans. Then some wiring which should be easy and you have a potential solution for under $1,000. I'd also think about switching to straight DI water and watter wetter if it doesn't snow where you live. All that should take care of MOST of the overheating issues. I know there's supposed to be increased heat from the increased displacement but your water temp shouldn't be THAT high. The Spearco Water Injection System is also pretty well priced and Sharif has had some good success with it. Info on that here: http://www.turboneticsownersclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=37
