Cut 1/8 " grooves in extra pulley, still filing the edges.

How does less surface area promote more grip?

That would be like cutting more grooves in tires, right?

curious to find out the results. I take it your belt has been slipping a lot?

What size pulley is it?

 

Someone else had posted about a company that makes that type of pulley . They bought one but it didnt fit . Looks like the OP is making his own . COOL!
I had heard other reports about it gripping better , but belt wear was increased also .

 

Am i the only one that feels this is a disaster waiting to happen?

From what I've read, you go through belts 2-3 times as fast with the cut grooves

 

I know you can also sandblast off the anodize on the pulley to help grip also . But they said belt wear is increased that way also

 

It's a 3.12 pulley. I've got two, so if it shreds the belt I can change it back.

 

My old belt was still good after a year (17000 miles). If this one lasts 6 months, I won't complain.

 

"Disaster" a little melodramatic. It's just a 25$ belt.

 

I know our engines are internally balance so the crank pulley does not act as a harmonic balancer but still, if there is a wobble or inbalance in the pulley, you run the risk of shorting the life of the engine or at the least cause an oil leak from the main seal. In the worse case i can imagine, the pulley cracks under a high load and the engine is fudged on the spot.

If I had to cut these grooves, Id at least take it to be balanced by a mahcinist.

I think he just put slots into the SC pulley as there would be no need to do it to the crank pulley since that is one of the last things that would slip.

 

IMO the only thing really at stake would be possibly the vortech itself getting messed up from the pulley not being balanced.

I don't think it's quite as critical as the crank pulley since the SC pulley doesn't have a crankshaft, 6 pistons/rods, 2 cams, 24 valves connected directly or indirectly to it

 

If the OP cuts that pulley and its not balanced . Its not going to hurt the SC . But it may wear out the bearings in the jackshaft .

If the belt breaks , its not a disaster . You just loose power steering , and the Alt. will not be charging . Its happened to me ! Belt didnt break , but the adj. pulley fell off . So belt wasnt turning

 

I believe that when preasure starts to build in the system and the blower gets harder to turn . The belt is slipping on all the pulleys slightly . Thats why we cant get close to the rated boost of the blower . With a all cog system you would make full boost or real close to it .
