Yes but unfortunately the Turbo is pretty much dead. The cost is almost as much as a new Turbo to repair. The analysis said that is was thermal break down I believe which makes me unlucky I guess because I always cooled the car down for atleats 3 minutes and was mainly used for driving back and forth to work with a 4 mile daily average. I totaled 11,000 miles in a little over a year and Hawaii never gets too hot. Oh yea I also used TN oil. So I'm not sure what I should do at this point.

Isn't anyone at Turbonetics interested in why their product failed under "normal" use? 11,000 mi life expectancy for a turbocharger strictly street driven? So now what does Turbonetics expect you to do? Buy a new turbo?

i'm pretty sure we already know why it failed. Thermal failure. He already posted it. As for what to do now thats between him and Ed.

i think jet is asking *why* thermal failure under normal use, with TN oil, and only after 11k miles... a VERY fair question...

I'm sure Turbonetics could answer that better for him. Thermal failure is a bit to broad. I'm curious which component failed as it would tell you more why the failure occured or at least where to look.

was the turbo not spooling right or spitting out black smoke? why did you take the downpipe off to check for oil in the first place?

It was producing white smoke off and on from last September 2006. As time progressed the smoke got worse and worse until it could finally be traced to the Turbo. I actually thought my motor was the cause initially back in November so I ordered and installed a Built motor from BuiltZmotors and when the car was apart the Turbo and down-pipe was dry. Had I been able to trace the issue earlier I would have been in warranty.

i'm curious, too... hopefully Ed or someone will post up a detailed explanation once they have a chance to do some diags on the unit... anything can fail and there are many mitigating circumstances that can lead to failure, but i think it a good idea for an explanation to be forthcoming due to the reputation of TN turbos being plagued with this issue...

i personally think they have a decent kit...not for me as i'm a greddy guy through and through...but, for the price...a decent kit...

Yes I'm curious as well about the Thermal failure. I'm not sure if there was anything more I could have done to prevent the damage. The only thing I can think of is maybe adding a oil cooler or swapping to a water cooled unit. I seen the kit MIA posted about, Reggies car right? It is water cooled I think. Wish I could get something like that

Ok Red let me look further into this and as far as the Wet Bearing option we are testing this on our cars and if works well we might offer this as a option.
