Default Gear Dependent Boost?

Is there a boost controler available that can control boost dependent on gear weather it senses what gear you are in by way of a solenoid and switches to a higher boost setting or is selectable manually.

I will have the UTEC controling my BCS. Can something be done through the UTEC?

Turbo XS has a mechanical quad stage boost controller that uses solenoids to switch between preset boost levels and they says it can be switched electronicly in a number of different ways. Either by electrical switch on the drivers wheel or by gearbox microswitch. How and where could I hook up a gearbox microswitch that would sense a gear change. Any ideas?

The Turbo XS site says about the DTEC Boost Controller Pro (DTEC-BC-PRO) ... "The DTEC-BC-PRO allows everything from simple "one number" boost control that can be set up in minutes to the most advanced closed loop, gear dependant, RPM, and throttle position based programmable boost controller ever conceived'. Does anyone know how to hook this up for gear dependant boost?

If someone can figure out gear dependant boost control High HP Z's will be much faster cars.

Larry,

Use you foot to modulate it!!!

In the UTEC boost maps, you can set the boost level (closed loop control) to whatever level you dependant upon TPS %.

I have a very simple setup on mine right now......0-50% throttle will only give me wastegate pressure....over50% throttle, and I have it set to 9 psi. that is obviously a very simple setup, but you can tweak the setting for every 10% TPS from 0-100% to whatever boost level you want.

The UTEC will not control Gear dependant boost, however their DTEC boost controller will, however, the 350Z does not have a Vehicle speed signal coming from the ECU, as it is transferred via the systems CAN bus system. The Z does have wheel speed sensors on each wheel, however all 4 signals are sent to the Body control Module/ABS/VDC computers where the signals are interperted and transferred via the CAN bus system to the ECU. We never tried to tap of just ONE wheel speed sensor to see if the gear dependant boost control would work..

on navi equipped vehicles, there is a Vehicle speed wire that is easily tapped into.......I know because I put a switch on it so that I can enter destinations into my NAVI while moving.

Correct, however I am unsure if it will provide the needed voltage the DTEC will need to see signal as I have not tested it..i am interested to see if this would work.

Thanks

Just checking the SBC iD Color out. It is of course a great boost controller. Adding the Blitz pressure and temp sensors and tapping other vehicle sensors and a wide band 0-5v input is very very cool. Having just the SBC iD Color would be much cleaner than having multiple gauges. Hooking in a VSS is needed to do the speed based boost. Any one figure this out yet? Where are you guys tapping RPM for somthing like this device?

In the FSM the factory dash gauges sends a 2P VSS signal to the NAVI unit, BINGO!!!

What about using the HKS EVC VI which allows boost to be tuned for throttle, RPM and/or vehicle speed?

JT, where are we to tap RPM, off a coil pack signal?

Nope! With all the CANN bus components that signal is digital from the ECU to the dash and any other processor that needs the signal. The coil output is the best bet. You could potentially use the Greddy RPM adaptor to provide a single output if you Boost Controller/Window Switch/ETC needs a standard distributor style rpm type output.

It should be possible just needs to be tested and a few potential configurations played with.

The manual says you can do a 3d boost map with any of the two inputs.

EVC6 does NOT have gear dependent boost but it does have a 3D map with either RPM x Throttle OR Speed x Throttle. The HKS Easy Writer software is now available through an HKS dealer for an additional $129.00 and includes software and hardware to hook it up to your lap top. This software makes setting up the boost controller MUCH easier and also has logging capabilities, map tracing, etc.

I might be doing a write in the near future explaining in depth all the features of the EVC6 and how they work, its an awesome BC

Hope this helps,
