Default Custom Single Turbo Kit

I currently have a 2006 g35 coupe 6mt and I was wondering what do I need in order to do a custom single turbo kit? Whats a good size turbo and what type of support mods do i need. Will a afc or emanage be enough for a simple tune? thanks

Kenny

Been there, done that, blown it up.

Way to much work for a custom turbo kit unless you can do the work yourself. Either you will get hack work or you will pay a lot of money.

And in all honesty, if you don't know what support mods and EMU you need you may be getting in way over your head unless you do a bunch more research or get a shop like SFR that has the capabilities (prolly wont do it though) and the knowledge of Z's that is needed to do it properly.

So you have no clue what you are doing, but you want to build a custom hit? Hmm....good luck.

There are allot of good books out there about turbo charging. I would pick one of those up first and read through it.

Grass roots motor sports had a pretty good article about junkyard turbo chargers. I am not by any means insinuating that you use a junkyard turbo on your G but the article did cover the basics of what is needed when taking on such a project. It would be a good place to start to wrap your head around the idea of what is needed.

I believe that corky bell offers a very informational book on turbocharging.

A couple shops have made custom GT35R kits for the G/Z. Can't get much better on design than those. Do a search, one kit is made by Eternal Motorsports.

Not saying it can't be done, because we have made a couple single turbo setups... but why? What are your power goals? Unless you are after something crazy, you will likely spend less money and get a nicer setup just buying one of the off-the-shelf kits. Building a single turbo setup for a z/g is more complicated than throwing together a manifold and a couple pipes for an inline mazda setup.
