How hard do you drive your Z with FI on a stock block?
My car is mostly a weekend warrior. But at those times, I beat the hell out of it. Boosting 20+ times a day. Get get enough of the open dump. Several of those times ripping threw all the gears. Couple of mountain runs, tearing it up for an hour+ at a time. Not one slight problem yet. Had 12,000 miles before FI and 4,000 boosted. Already been on my second set of tires. Love every bit of it. Running 8psi.

Mine's a DD, she sees boost every day, sometimes WOT when traffic is clear. 8.5psi
IMPO it is a total gamble. It comes down to a choice. If this car is your only means of transportation, I say don't boost it at all built motor or not because things go wrong and it might be something small but you have to take the time and fix it before you can drive the car or you may do some real damage. If it isn't you daily who cares do it you will regret not doing it sooner. I have a 2005 with 53000 miles about 10,000 boosted @ 9psi and I drive the **** out of it everytime i get in it. If it goes tomorow i'll still be happy.
not my DD just a toy for me, drive it once or twice a week, beat the living F out of it when i do drive it. 14 psi , bounce it off the rev limiter quite a bit , running 100 octane fuel, 430 RWHP /390 RWTQ, stock internals AND IT IS STILL HOLDING TOGETHER!!!! i attribute it holding together this long due to the vortechs lack of stress on the connecting rods, "lower tourqe numbers compared to a turbo application", all of my cooling/overkill supporting mod's and a conservative tune by Sam at GTM helps as well!!!!!!!!!
and if the engine pops tommorow, oh well excuse to build and step things up!!!!!!!!

'O4 Touring Coupe, D.D. (365 days a year!!!), two weeks out of a tankful--cruise-controlled for max' MPG. When I get off "swings" (at midnight), I may take it up to 75-80 for a few seconds, just for the thrill; then ease back down to 55-65, to avoid traffic tickets/accidents. Obviously, I'm an old-timer; those feverish days are over!

'O4 Touring Coupe! FLAWLESS AT!! 13k!!! $2O,5OO!!!! NO feathering!!!!!

haha +1! This will be a major fail of a post if he isn't...
....like talking about RSX's in a Z forum
I drive the **** out of mine and it is holding together nicely after 2500 miles of being boosted. I just figured out my highway mpg this weekend = 26-27 when I'm not boosting (and I ALWAYS boost).
6 psi...fully tuned. I'm going back in for a cold-weather tune soon to drive it until the snow falls. $500 bucks for parts and tune or thousands for a new motor....easy choice.
Just keep it tuned and checked and you should be fine. Keep in mind that catastrophic failures are usually unexpected and don't happen in your driveway or shop's parking lot. Tows are expensive...invest beforehand ina tune/build and save yourself time, trouble, and female rejection/embarassment. I am still not sure if I want to hit 9 psi on my stock block...that is the ragged edge. I am awaiting Function:Tuned's budget build results...hopefully they do it this winter!

That all depends on how you consider it is 'supposed to be driven'. Old guys with vettes drive them to look cool, they don't use the power. They drive it is they think it 'should be driven'

Or another option, just get to know someone who has a big truck and has recently invested in a trailer to tow the Z on..
That pretty much covers the guys I run with in the Mid-A..
So, not to be a total fail on this but once I get everything I have sitting in my garage and dinning room in put into my Z it will be a fair weather vehicle for daily drives. And I plan to STAY IN BOOST on stock internals and when the day comes when I have to rip apart the block, well, so be it..
8 PSI beat the living hell out of it everytime i can. thinking of upping to 10PSI and getting a good tune, and supporting mods like bigger rad, and oil cooler. we will see how she holds.

If your crew is deep enough it is possible. No one I know sits at home waiting for me to ask them to come pick me up in Upstate NY or North Carolina or Maine with their truck and carrier!!!!!
I live 10 miles from MRC and my parents house is 30 miles from F:T. I am covered at those two locations, anywhere else is a serious gamble.
