I think some of us in the FI club get complacent with the amount of power ower cars put out. This incident puts things a little more into perspective that with the added power we have on tap the potential to get yourself messed up or killed is that much easier. you just have to be smart about it as most of us here are.

That's that, a fire extinguisher is going behind my seat.
I use to run one in my Turbo civic just in case. It was mounted where I could easily reach it. Last thing I want is a "cool" looking fire extinguisher that can't be reached if I'm pinned.

i have one mounted to my floor just in front of the passenger seat mounts. its completely out of the way, and decently visable and very good access. it has quick disconnect brackets that mount to the floorboard. i wouldnt even want it behind my seat, i mean hell... that guy was trapped in the car, if he couldnt get out of the car he probably could reach behind his seat!
another thing to consider is a fire suppression system. if you dont mind the weight of an extinguisher, it isnt much more to run the little plastic tubes and nozzles for a full supression system.

I bought mine from homedepot, it was a small one that covered electrical fires.
Cost like 10-15 bucks. I didn't care what it looked like, as long as it worked.
Chances are I'll get the same thing, it gotta be small enough to fit behind the seat where I can reach it, glove box is a no no, but on the floor behind the seat should be easy to reach.
Safety > looks

I'm definatly putting a fire extinguisher in my car too, ya never know, just a simple engine fire is always a possibility when you modify a car, rewire and change things. I don't know if he was alert or able to move but they say he couldn't get out. It looks like the doors were jammed shut and I have to wonder if he didn't know how to open the rear hatch in our cars as there is only a pull strap under the rear strut brace and not a button or a lever as in most cars. Reguardless this is a horrible accident and I feel for all of his friends and family.Maybe in time we can find out the shop and the owner of the car as anyone who modify's 350z's in some way or another is familiar with this site. RIP.

A little more expensive then Jeffie's idea, but a good investment none the less...

We run them in all our drag cars. For a $3-$500 investment it is well worth it considering what can happen. An Injector can leak, anything can happen that will cause a fire.

Id recommend to go at least with what MSHA specifies(stricter than regular fire regulations)... which would be to re-certify the fire extinguisher every year....
The problem with this dry chemical extinguishers is that the "stuff" settles and you are done, so its probably good practice that you always shake and make sure everything still pressurize.
