Ive been doing a bunch of street/commuter tuning on my new setup. Basic budget build, not trying to break any records. Running Greddy TT, 0.8 bar WG springs, Weisco 8.8:1 pistons, Eagle Rods, S1 Cams yadayadayada... The motor isnt too noisey at cold start, so Id say the bore is not sloppy at all, Ive heard much worse. I have the AFR stable at ~11.5:1 under boost. I keep getting a few 01 knock counts in the 5k-6k range when I data log. Random rpm points, never the exact same spot, and no more than one or two lines of 01 counts in a pull. Ive run timing as low as 10deg advance and still getting it. I have the knock threshold down to 55 and was wondering how low those with built motor and turbo set ups have their knock thresholds set too. Ive seen some stock motor turbo parameters with it as low as 55, the Greddy TT and APS paramaters on TXS's web site are set at 50 in the upper rpms. Im pretty sure its engine noise and if I lowered the threshold a bit it would go away. I dont want to have is set so low that it dosent catch real knock events. Thanks for your thoughts and info!
Matt:
How does the UTEC knock control compare to the "other box"?
Did some testing on an F150 Lightning last month.
Factory supercharged Eaton with pulleys to make 19 psi. 62k miles stock block (powdered metal rods).
Tune is for 91 octane, but ran it on 89 for two weeks just to prove it can be done:

I havent pushed it yet so I cant say for sure. Im at 17-18 degrees advance boosting 8psi on an 8.8:1 motor using 93oct and have no signs of detonation. I wouldnt think I would have detonation with the above parameters either. I want to be sure the UTECs sensitivity is okay before I go with much more advance attempting to get the timing to sweet spot.
I know your SafeGuard works very well though.
