Default upgrade to Vortech 3.12 pulley

i was looking to upgrade my vortech pully from the 3.33 to the 3.12. the current mods on my car are:

DC Sport Ceramic Coated Headers
Pro-1 Test Pipes
JIC Y-pipe
JIC Spartan DE Type 1 ST Exhaust

i also have a 1/2" motordyne spacer and new spark plugs that i'll probably install as well.

i wanted to know what other modifications i'll need to be able to upgrade the pulley and run it safely. will i need to upgrade my fuel system? can i still use the SS box or will i have to upgrade to something like utec? what motor oil are you guys running w/ your vortech SC? my Z isnt my daily driver but i do drive it often so i would like my car to be safe and reliable. thanks for your help in advance!

highly recommend deastchwerk 600cc injectors and walbro 255lhp and retune of the ss box

some will tell you recommended but to me its necessary for longevity, reliablity and performance. if you dont want those then keep the stock fuel system. just to give you an idea of what might happen, lets say if you engine blows, its gonna cost a minimum of $6000 in repairs. so you its either $700 invested now or possibly $6k down the road. you pick.

I believe there are plenty of guys running the 3.12 pulley with thousands of miles on thier cars that havent change any thing in thier kits . Other than re-tuning of course . If you wanted to run the car hard a lot , then ....yes...I would change the fuel system . Keep in mind , if you go to a larger injectors the SS box can not scale them and you will have to have the ECU flashed for the injectors . Then you can easily get it tuned with the SS box .

I ran the 3.12 pulley for a while with no changes to the fuel system. All it needed was a minor retune of the SS box. The car saw repeated drag strip and highway runs with A/F never getting about 10.9 which is right where I wanted them.

booger and vash, you guys think that my car will be safe with my supporting mods? sounds like i might need some additional gauges to keep track of things. i currently have boost, ext temp, and fuel pressure. looks like i should pick up an A/F. anything else?

Get an oil temp and wideband A/F.

I run a similar supporting mod list to yours, basically all of the bolt-ons. I would definately get a wideband A/F meter, I installed one when I installed my supercharger, you can never be too careful.

injectors = $600
fuel pump =$100
peace of mind = priceless.

hay dave,

I have about 40,000 miles on my z with the vortech, over 35,000 with the 2.87 pulley. I have headers, test pipes, injen dual exhaust, custom k and n intake and 440cc Deatchworks injectors using the SS BOX. the only change I've made to the fuel system is modifing the FMU from a 8/1 to 6/1 and then retuning after installing the injectors. A/F is 11.5-11.8, low 11's is pig rich. The SS Box is a great tool. I ran 12.51@ 113.25mph, the car will run 11.90's -12.10's with a bit more agressive tune and better driving. This is an 03 touring loaded 3450 lbs. I only have 8 runs on the car so far.

So, as far as the 3.12. All you need is a retune. I do all of my own tuning. so if you what to try it your self let me know, you will need an A/F gauge and the R4 SS software.

Also Booger is a smart guy, but he is wrong about the SS box not working with larger Injectors. You DO NOT have to get your ECU flashed for the injectors.
Their is not a Scaling Feature with the SS BOX persay, but it does work and it works well.

Are you running with the stock FP? If so surprised you don't lean out up top..

I had heard you got by with out flashing the ECU . Maybe because you have 440's . I tried and tried with the 550's but I could never keep an idle for long . The ECU kept adjusting on its own . BUt as far as a piggyback go's......with all the problems Ive heard about from all the other piggybacks....the SS box is trouble free . Its simple , easy to tune , and it works well enough

To support Tim's point, I am currently running a 2.87 pulley with 420cc injectors. I was able to tune the SS box easily and I have no additional upgrades to my fuel system.

you don't need injectors for this. The stock injectors can flow to a point which would yeild 440 hp. Really all you need is an upgraded FMU and a tune=. I just had this conversation with a tuner last night after getting my car back with a vortech installed

Heres what Im running: Remember its always better to be safe than sorry.... Hate seeing people cut corners even though some say its safe and end up running into problems down the road. You will always end up spending more later...... Just my .02

Vortech w/ 2.87
R/C 750cc inj.
Stage 1 fuel return sys.
Walbro FP
Utec
Along w/ some more performance mods....

Soon to come is: PWR radiator, nismo thermostat & larger intercooler....

MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD TUNE!!!!

comprehend english? what does recommended mean? lmao at your stock injectors at 80%+ duty cycle majority of the time at wot. good luck with all that.
