Default Another lonely Procharger finds a good home...PICS

Jeff at Avalon Racing finished the install and tuning this morning. It's the second 350 he's done so it went a little quicker than the first - still, it was a good 11-12 hour job.

I Just drove it home and all I can say is the car is TRANSFORMED. I'm reminded of the switch from my old normally aspirated Porsche 944 to my first 300 Twin Turbo. The rush is back. Big difference vs. the twin turbo though - NO TURBO LAG. It pulls instantly and linearly to red line. The dyno curves publihed in the other thread show exactly how this motor now feels - an absolutely linear rush to the red line. And gobs of torque. Poke the go pedal with the car in 2nd or 3rd and your head is instantly slapped against the head rest. Downshifting just got a lot less important. The kit itself is tight and very well thought out down to the screw holes in the bottom of the intercooler that match the holes in the plastic engine compartment bottom cover. Nice.

I was curious how this mod might impact overall drivability, but those concerns appear to be unfounded. Idle is smooth, the engine is absolutely linear and the car drives like it came form the factory with the supercharger already installed. Noise was the other question. Out of the box there is gear whine as well as the supercharger whistle. Jeff mentioned that the first car had been back for it's 500 mile post install oil change and the gear whine was gone after break-in and all that was left was the whistle. Whistle is a bit misleading to describe it though. It's lower pitched than a pure whistle. In fact, it sounds a hell of a lot like a jet engine spooling up. Cool. I can definitley live with it.

The only thing missing in the kit: S*it eating grin remover. There's one plastered across my face right now because I just bought a brand new car. Combined with the JIC suspension and AP 6 pistons up front this car is so different (in a better way) than the way it was last November when I got it that I find it hard to believe...

Thanks Paul, Jeff and Avalon Racing!

Thumbs up Green with envy

Very sweet! I am green with envy....

When are you thinking of getting it to the track?

Any way you can post some mpegs? I would love to hear the whine.

I am at least a year away from this setup, but will live vicariously through other procharger owners in the mean time.

Oh Man, I can't wait to get mine installed!

You mentioned a 500 mile oil change. Is this something that is necessary after the Procharger?

The reason I ask is that I am set up for an oil change this week to have my Redline synthetic put in. If it needs to be changed after 500 miles, I'd just use regular oil and save the $ynthetic for the 500 mile change.

Can you make some audio recordings of the sound?

Thanks.

Old frequently asked question. Search on turbo vs supercharger and various forms of those words.

Is that the stock engine cover modified?.....or did the kit include one that fits over everything?

Dr Bonz,
I believe the oil change is for the supercharger itself. This ATI compressor uses a self contained oiling system, and I would expect that it requires a break-in followed by an oil change to get rid of any metal particles, similar to the engine itself. I would recommend going ahead with your engine oil change using your oil of choice.

Does that intercooler bother the radiator??? Looks like the radiator won't be getting near as much air as it was getting before.

Thanks Gary, I guess that was fairly obvious (to everyone except me

little rod, supposedly what you see right behind the intercooler isn't the radiator but the AC condenser. At least that is what was mentioned on the other long thread discussing the Procharger.

The air still runs through the intercooler then the radiator so no problems.
