Utec gone Fcon in.
Just wanted to post a BIG thanks to Sam at GTM for working with me via long distance to help me upgrade my ems to the Fcon. In addition to the Fcon I also installed the Knock amp with dual AF sensors, intake air temp. sensor, pressure sensor and all the harnesses plus we re flashed my ecu.
All I can say is WOW, the car runs like a dream and even though it was a lot of money the car runs amazing and I am very happy. Sam was really patient and stayed true to his word in helping me trouble shoot any problems and get the car running like it should.
The Fcon was sent to me pre tuned and they modified the Fcon harness to make installation of the Knock amp all plug and play, in addition he sent me detailed directions to wire in my Aquamist HFS-5 water meth kit to the Fcon also.
I tell you all this because working together with Sam gave me a great alternative to the usual trailer the car 10-12 hours away, plus by not having the expense of travel exc. I felt like I could invest more into the equipment instead.
I hope to get it on the dyno soon, I'd be interested to see if I gained or lost a few ponies, my most resent dyno with the Utec was around 411hp and 330 tq, my guess by the way she runs is that even with out a dyno tune it will do better.
So long story short, I just thought if there were others out there with the same issues of distance and time constraints that this might also be a viable option, so far it appears to be working out very well.
Lastly I wasn't very happy with just sticking my Knock amp display or navigator on the dash so I took out the center cubby and made my own custom insert to hold the displays which took some time but I like the way it worked out.

If they just loaded a tune on there already from a different car, how are you going to fine tune it to your car? What happens if you add/remove some parts how will you tune it? You gonna pull the FCON out and ship it back?

As far as a retune don't think I'll ever need to. Even though there is no limit to what I can buy for the car I think I'm done with hp performance for a while. And if that changes maybe I'll take a vacation and go see Sam in sunny California.
Now that its running so well I think I'll just enjoy it. Besides I get my nut off working on my buddy's Pro Mod race team, his car has almost as much hp in one cylinder as does all six of mine LOL. Heres a link http://www.superchevyshow.com/driver...tevebruce.html

interesting.
interesting.
I think fine tuning would be needed. If it isn't locked (the FCON), I would definately get it fine tuned.
Eh, if you are happy with the tune, then so be it, but I just couldn't justify spending 3k+ on ems and not have it custom tuned
Well I'm not sure how generic the tune is, according to Sam he has hundreds of recorded tunes many with the same set up as me. Yes there are slight differences between cars but with the compensation maps in place the Fcon as I understand will make slight adjustments to compensate for any slight differences. I drove the car around for a few days and data was stored on the Fcon in which I pulled back out and sent to Sam so he could make final adjustments to the base map. So it's been tweaked to some degree for my car.
I'll just have to get it dyno'd in order to do a true before and after comparison. All I know is the car runs better and smoother then it ever has since go FI, so that being said it was worth it to me.
I guess it's not anymore difficult to justify then spending 3k + for bolt on parts that give you an extra 20hp. Been there done that.
At least with this there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in the way the car runs.
I'm not suggesting that this is the best way to go, but it is an option for people like me who just don't have the time to drag there car half way across the country to get a tune.
