Default Custom 8 rib pulley setup for vortech.

Alright, i just got a e-mail back from Unorthodoxracing and they are willing to machine me a custom set of eight rib pulleys for the Z " at a great expense to me BTW " they will include the crank pulley, power steering pulley and alternator pulley. i will purchase a 8 rib 2.87 s/c serp pulley through 928 motorsports which they offer several other sizes as well. i will have to have the idler pulley machined custom by a local shop. i am in the process of designing a full 8 rib serp setup for the vortech rev-up s/c installation "should also work on non rev as well". i have seen alot of vortech equiped Z's having problems with belt slip when they try to push the higher power levels with the current vortech designe especialy with a T-trim application which i will be doing soon myself on a built block. the project is still in the works and will be requiring alot of R&D on my part with shimming existing pulleys on the kit as well as spacing the blower fwd a small bit and making corrections as needed while it is comming together. this is a known mod in the mustang community to where vortech even offers them a kit to upgrade to a 8 rib setup when a T-trim is installed. but i am sure as you know the mustang community is greatly larger than ower's which warrants vortech to offer a upgrade like this to them and not to us. so my question is would this be something others would be interseted in? Shawn at unorthodoxracing asked me if i think others might be interested in this type of upgrade. I would not expect anyone to do a upgrade such as this till i work out all the kink's and have solid prof that it is worth it. so i am just throwing a feeler out there for this upgrade if and when it all comes together. i may try to market a complete kit once this all comes together.

will be interesting to see how much more boost that you will be able to make over the 13 to 15 psi the 6 rib makes before slipage

you should also get a larger crank pulley since its already custom (like 6.25" or more). That will also be less slip than the smaller SC pulley.

I just got off the phone with unorthodox pulleys to give them the go ahead on making the 8 rib setup when there appeared to be a miscommunication in the e-mails we exchanged earlier. they want $800.00 to $900.00 just for the crank pulley not to include the alternator or power steering pump!!!! this is not economicaly feasable at this point. i would have around $2000.00 in just pulleys when it is said and done. i have contacted one more vendor "wrp technologies" if they do not have a more realistic price then i may give up this venture. i will be willing to spend as much as 1000.00 to maybe 1500.00 on the whole project to include all pulleys, tensioner pulley and belts. at this rate for the V1 T-trim supercharger upgrade " 1800.00 PLUS MY V2 EXCHANGED" or 2800.00 outright for a new blower and this pulley project it would put me in the dollar territory to just sell my s/c setup and put the extra cash towards a powerlab tuner kit!!!!!this may push me over to the "dark side" with the turbo people and rethink my engine build...........

I would put your foot down in regards to that price. I paid them just over $500 for my custom crankpulley and my crank pulley should actually be 2-ribs longer than yours since I made the 4-rib section an 8-rib.

You should not have any problems getting them down to under $1500.

PM me again if you need any help with Unorthodox in regards to the crank pulley.

How about sandblasting every pulley and making sure every pulley is as clean as possible? I have had belt slip issues all summer at 10 psi and finally cleaned all the rubber build up out of the grooves of my pulleys with rubbing alcohol and sandpaper folded up and dragged through each groove until shiny metal is exposed. Then I tightened my tensioner with the help of a jack (long story) to get it very tight. Drove the car for a day and had to re-tighten the belt a lot more but it is now working perfect except for the first min during start up when its really cold <35 degrees. I also found that I was having a lot of slipping and noise from my power steering pulley as not much of the belt touches it. This may be a cause of how the rubber is getting built up on my other pulleys and causing all of my slip problems. I have it under control now but I think making sure every pulley is very clean and maybe even roughed up for traction would help.

dose anybody have a stock crank shaft pulley, power steering pulley and alt pulley i can use or purchase? i need them for R&D. i have been talking to a local machine shop that may do this for a decent price. plus i want to be able to take dimesions to compare against other pulleys that are already on the market that i may be able to modify to suite the needs of this installation. i really do not want to remove these items from my own z just to take acurate dimensions.
