GReddy kit requires the same thing.

Only difference is if you crash you will need a new intercooler, vs. needing a new intercooler and crash beam (since the intercooler would get damaged regardless)

.64 and .86 refer to the A/R

Specifically, A/R is an acronym for Area/Radius. For a turbine housing, the area is the cross-sectional area of the inlet and the radius is measured from turbo centerline to the centroid of the inlet. For a compressor housing, it's pretty much the same although your dealing with the discharge in lieu of an inlet.

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...o_tech102.html

A smaller A/R gives a faster spoolup, but provides lower total flow capacity.

I'm not sure about that. Here is what George himself stated in that thread:

"This is all on 93 octane, with water injection. Gotta love displacement" (Post #8)

You are correct we did not use the nitrous on that car, it is installed, we just didn't see the need for it yet.

The massive torque is due to the engine being stroked to a 4.24L

I had the impression that the front crash beam was to transfer impact energy throughout the car in order to reduce severity of the crash?

Wouldn't the front impact star rating of the Z drastically go down from absence of the crash beam?

Will you are replacing with an intercooler, so there is still something there.

We obviously haven't done any crash testing to see what would happen, but I can't see their being much of a sacrifice by swapping the beam out with an intercooler.

I just don't think its a big deal to be honest.

The GTM IC and brackets look pretty beefy. I wouldn't want to find out how it compares to stock crash bar in an accident, but i wouldn't say it is a huge cause for concern.

The other thing that comes to mind is a few years back i was borrowing a buddies civic and had an accord wagon turn across traffic in front of me. I wasn't able to slow down enough to avoid it, but just hit the rear quarter of the wagon. The civic slid completely under the accord. The "crash beam" as well as the frame rails and air bag sensors were un-touched ... however the radiator, fenders, hood etc were destroyed .... the engine is what stopped the civic from going farther under. Moral of the story? Your Z is lower than 90% of the other vehicles on the road. Any form of crash beam or intercooler up front is only going to matter if you hit a tree, or light pole or something... they probably won't do much to save you if you get rear ended and pushed into the SUV in front of you!

I am sticking with the Yokahama Advan..I like the way they feel when I push them.

As far as what I am doing with the car..I will start a thread and list what we are doing....I guess that would only be fair to the people involved. There was a change of plans today to go bigger than what has leaked out so far...

I guess it does not matter now ...Raj and his sidekick his fixed it so that there is no chance for me to use the power this thing will make

I just checked out the Yokohama site. I'm not seeing any Advans larger than 305 in a 20" wheel (which I think you have). They do have a 315 in 18" and 19" wheels.

I have 305s on the back right now, but I was planning on using my fender roller to push the fenders out a bit so I can go a little bigger next time. After my last tune (before I tried the WOT shift with the borrowed F-CON), I was still getting wheel spin in 3rd gear, and I wasn't anywhere near the hp your gonna be at.

are the 1000 hp turbo kits for the 1000 hp engines?

(another rhetorical question,'cause some don't know)

I am actually selling my 20's for this reason. Currently running 18's with 275s in the front and 305s in the rear (Toyo RA-1s)

So far so good

Look at the graphs on the 855rwhp build, almost the same spool time (slightly slower) with an APS Extreme kit which has larger turbochargers, that car had a very similar build, except no nitrous was installed on it at all.

Now you take a kit like the GReddy with the smaller 18G turbos, and put it on a 4.24L engine, you get instant spool - hence the high torque at such low RPM.
