Default built motor questions

Hey guys, im building my motor with wiesco pistons and eagle rods, however my question is, is it okay to use the std bore pistons 95.5 vs. using a 96mm bore piston. (also no .02 overbore on either option). thanks in advance.

you are kind of confusing, which is why no one has responded to you.

if you hone, bore your block go with 96mm, if you have a low milage close to perfect condition cylinder go with 95.5mm

even if they are in perfect condition, please mic the cylinders to know exactly what the cylinders are. just because the stock bore is supposed to be 95.5 doesn't mean that is what they are. In addition, you will run different clearances on an aftermarket forged piston that you will on an oem cast piston. the way a motor should be built is the holes should be machined to spec in reference to the specific individual piston going in.

In short, no, you should not buy stock bore pistons without knowing the exact condition and measurments of each cylinder.

this is something you should be discussing with a machine shop to get the right clearances

like everyone says, it depends on how many miles your engine has.. you can always take it to your machine shop, if you trust the guys there then ask them to inspect the shortblock and ask them if you go with just a cylinder hone, will the cylinder wall clearances be ok. mine came out a bit wide

Your in Atlanta, right ?

Definitely call Forged Performance: 770-792-0202

Sharif and his team have built many (I have no idea how many, but its a lot) VQ Motors with a very high success rate.

dont buy pistons or anything just because you found it cheap. unles it was like 200 for 6 new ones but 600 is like arias pistons. Just wait and youll save money.
