Default How many miles on engine before TT is not good idea?

I've been pondering TT for my car for a little while now but she has 42,700 miles on her and I still have a couple years left of payments to go.. She's an 06 Enthusiast. So I figure I may be around the 70,000 mark before I can go FI. Is it safe after that many miles or would my plan B probably be a better one..

What's plan B? Plan B is just finishing the N/A mods I plan on doing and leaving it at that then trading in the car in a couple years for a 370 (possibly nismo) and maybe get a TT for that instead while the miles are still under 30-40k. I guess I won't have an answer until I have paid the car off but would still like to know what the majority of people's mileage cut-off is for FI a car.

I currently have jwt pop / greddy evo2 catback, kinetix v4 plenum, berk aluminum z-tube.

I plan on doing - Berk HFC, a reflash and tune and then just cosmetics such as wheels, spoiler, lip, and smoking brake lights. It's possible I may start to build the engine slowly (primarily just the weaker parts that usually cause it to blow like pistons/rods etc) until I can do the TT.. But again my fear is that there will be too many miles by the time I do that to TT, I have no idea when it's not a good idea to TT anymore.

Also, another thought. Lets say my engine has somewhere between 70k-100k on it and I end up trading it in for one of the built engines that are offered by some of the online shops like Import Parts Pro etc. Would this in general get rid of most of my issues with the car having that many miles on it and wanting to TT? I'd have a new built engine but at that point there may be some other things that will need to be replaced after that many miles to be safe.

Help and Suggestions?

Ah crap I need to update my profile, I just moved back to Southern California. I'm near Hunington Beach right now but will be moving in to Commerce 5min south of Downtown L.A. in a couple weeks.

Call GT Motorsports in Rancho Cucamonga. You have way too many issues to answer in a single thread, one being that no TT kits are CA smog approved. Sam will be able to help guide you to come up with a solution that is right for you.

I have driven over 45,000 turbocharged miles and my bone stock engine is now at 70K. It dynoed at 479WHP but I drive it around 440WHP the majority of the time. Am I lucky, hell yes. Any major issues, No.

So it really depends on how you take care of your engine, how it is tuned, how much power you make, etc.........I dont think you wil find the answer you are looking for though since there is so many variables.

A high mileage VQ will take just as well to FI as a lower mileage VQ as long as it's been taken care of.

Oh and 70-100K miles on a VQ is not high mileage for these motors.

He is lucky since his name is Tim. People with that name are lucky by nature.

Didn't Tim get busted for ridin dirty in CA, fix it tickets FTMFL

Instead of finishing your NA mods you should get all the money in singles and start a fire, then throw them in one by one..... it makes as much sense as NA mods

Engine health is the concern. Get a compression and leakdown test done before you move forward. I don't understand why you have to wait until ~70k miles though?

He wants to pay the car off before going FI...probably a smart decision.

Listen to "burner" and I and pay off the f---ing car first. Then after you saved 85% of the FI bill in cash, THEN buy your FI setup. If you don't, then your just going to dig yourself deeper and deeper into debt.

Alright thanks for the info. Especially you smartasses in here Always entertaining! I got what I was looking for though. Good idea to make sure you pay off the car first and even if the engine is at 75k-100k FI is still fine as long as you get the engine checked and all is in good working condition.

The post about me missing the FI by 1 mile, classic! But not very helpful Everyone's a comedian :P

Can't say I agree with the poster who said N/A mods are a waste though. Though maybe not a lot, I've gotten gains from them and was unsure about wanting to go FI with all the threads about blown engines. Plus, if I'm not going to FI for a couple years.. I still have to mess around with my car somehow for fun, and N/A mods provide a temporary fix for my addiction. California laws are a pain..
