I think the latest issue of car and driver, or was it road and track, has an article on modded Z's. One of them was a modded Stillen Z. The article said they had to cut the strut brace to get the super charger to fit which made the handling worse. The 0-60 times seemed a bit improved and the 1/4 was better.

isn't the Z 285 HP from the factory?

Fritz,
The Z is 287 from the factory, but that is at the crank shaft. When you start talking about aftermarket performance mods, everyone starts talking "HP at the wheel" or RWHP. The reason for this is because it is easy to put a wheel on a dyno. It is much harder to put a crank on one. So, you take a stock z with anywhere between 230-250 rwhp and add 60. If you assume 240 rwhp, then this comes to 300 rwhp with the Stillen SC.
Why does the Stillen produce such a small amount of HP? Well, it is roots style (creates lots of heat) and it does not have an intercooler (can't remove the heat). As we all know, heat = boom. So, it can only produce a small amount of power and even then, the engine runs hot.
