clutch for vortech
i had the ACT street clutch with prolite flywheel and the SPEC twin disc clutch. First of all, i would like to say SPEC clutches suck and i would never buy another one. You get what you pay for, when i saw a twin disc clutch for 1000 dollars, i jumped on it. Ever since i had it installed, i just had problems, it never drove great, always had something wrong with it. And 8000 miles later, im starting to slip in 5th gear. MY car hasnt even been FIed for the past 5000 miles either because my vortech's bearings went bad so i was driving my car stock. Im looking to buy another clutch, i really liked the ACT street clutch, but the lightened flywheel chattered too much. Im trying to spend under 1000, and maybe going with ACT again. The street clutch was too stiff however, would like to drive soemthing new. Which ACT clutch would work for 400whp the best?? there is so many different ACT clutches, its confusing, whats the difference between heavy dutch and extreme clutches?? i dont think they have ACT street clutch anymore i think its called full face?? when i bought it it was the most expensive ACT, it was more than the 6 puck. What is the difference between sprung and unsprung?? what clutch are you guys running with ur vortech/turbo?? thanksss
my spec super twin works just fine. their cheapest SS model held my 898/700 on forged's dynodynamincs. I just upgraded to their ST model to run more power. Your master and slave cylinder have to be solid and you have to have the clutch pedal adjusted correctly.
For your setup, the standard JWT clutch will be just fine. Clutchmasters FX300 is also good. Along with DXD southbend clutches. No need to spend more than a few hundred bucks since you just dont make much torque.
6 pucks will be grabby. light flywheels chatter. nothing you can do about either of those things.

something must have been installed wrong or driver error to kill a twin disk setup with just 400hp.
I used a comp clutch stage 4, 6 puck before i had my os giken twin disk. The comp clutch was heavy and too grabby. worse than my twin disk. It did not like the drag strip either.
I'd say improper pedal adjustment or driver error if you killed a twin disk. something's not right with that.

if you found the pedal too stiff, then you'll need to look beyond ACT - the standard heavy duty is their most friendly pressure plate. The Extreme plates hold significantly more torque, at the expense of an even stiffer pedal. They are completely un-necessary for a 400whp street car. FWIW, the ACT pedal is not particularly stiff at all compared to a stock 03, early 04 clutch. It is moderately stiffer than 04.5 + cars though
The JWT works great as well, though the flywheel is noisier than either of the ACT offerings. Could always mate the ACT flywheel to the JWT clutch, would work fine. At under $1000, given all your ideal wants, it's going to be a challenge
