Default Shoot out between the ATI, Stillen, and Vortech SC'ers confirmed

Well everyone, Steve from Vortech told us we got a Vortech SC 350Z for the test and Dave at SportZ just e-mailed me and confirmed they alloted a space for it to be in the test.

We will have a dyno, autoX, and 1/4 mile comparision test of the ATI, Stillen, and Vortech SC 350Z's in less than a month. Finally, what I have been pushing to have done will become a reality. As a potiential consumer for a FI for my 350Z, this is great news.

It'll be interesting if any break. When Car and Driver did this with their import shoot out for tuners a few months ago, most of them broke. No fear.

What happened was there was a limit to how many cars could be tested. To accomadate the Vortech car, they decided to make this a 2 part test. The first part is the cars I listed in December. Part 2 will come later and then you will see TT in that test as well as another SC car.

Yes sir, that is the hope. both Dave and I have spoke to DW on this issue. Their car will not be ready until Jan so we decided to get this much delayed test going as part 1, then follow up with part 2 and hopefully DW will be released by then and be part of it.

Do we know the anticipated release dates for the two issues that will contain these two articles? Also, I don't think I ever see Sport Z magazine at Barnes and Nobles, although I get every other tuner magazine there--Hot Compact and Imports, Import Tuner, etc. How can we order the issues if we can't find them at local bookstores?

I for one sure as hell hope that total HP/Torque output isn't the main criteria for determining which unit is better. If it is then you'd be remiss not to add a Nitrous 175 shot to the list of competitors. Seriously.

How are you planning to measure the things that matter more to me than HP number, ie. reliability, fuel management, ease of ongoing maintenance, quietness, warranty, customer support, and honesty?

Exactly . . . maybe they can include a measure of the noise of the systems w/ a dB reading for each. Also, I hope they do a good job of describing the systems and their differences, especially in regards to warranty and fuel management.

Gentleman, all of these suggestions are valid. Please write Dave at editor@sportzmagazine.com to make those suggestions to the guys running the magazine. They took many of my suggestions already, maybe they will take yours too. all it would take is 3 minutes of your time.

Seeing how they are doing an auto-x test, it would be nice if they could compare it to a stock one in the test too, to see what you are really getting for 5 large.

I am hoping the stock Z will get a run at everything too. It would be nice to know how much of it is hp and how much is suspension etc...

Right now, the dates set are Sat., Dec 14th Autocross & 1/4 mile & Monday Dec 16th dyno. Anyone want to predict the order of performance (between ATI, STillen, Vortech) on:

1. Autocross
2. 1/4 mile
3. Dyno

ATI will have the best dyno and 1/4 mile and Vortech will have the best AutoX. i say ATI because they have the most HP gain between the 3 SC. just my $.02

Too many other variables like tire/wheel size, other suspension mods, etc.

I agree, tire size type, suspension are big variables in this. I just thought I would pose the question. The results will be fun to see. Maybe some surprises on who performs best.
