Yeah, that is the main flaw in this comparo IMO. If this were a scientific study, all of those things would have to be equalized.

I've got the 5yr/100,000 mile extended warranty on my roadster for Nissan. I know that they own Stillen or at least oversee certain products. Does anyone know for sure if the Stillen SC (or even thr ATI or Vortech SC's will void any of my warranty? I would really like to get another 100 hp at the rear wheels with out the dealer balking at any repair either directly or inderectly related to these mods.

Dr Bonz, you are correct and it is something i wish was different but I realized that after reading the Nov 2003 article in Road and Track Magazine comparing the Brembo, MotorX, Stillen, Greddy, and stock 350z's they did the same thing being each car had different suspension, wheels and tires, and brake kits. Later in the article in R&T, the author even points out the MotorX with stock brakes (not even stock Brembo brakes) out stopped the Brembo 350Z with its 15" brembo monster brakes that cost $3295 for fts only. He attributed it to the motorX's bigger and better griping tires.

If Road & Track will not spend the money to equalize their test with their bigger budget, you cannot expect SportZ to be able to afford it. The bottom line is all of these cars are owned by individuals that is there personal daily driver. All of them with the exception of the Vortech car are regular posters/members on this site.

Warranty issues with SC'ers on 350Z's:

ATI and Vortech: they only have a warranty on their both on kit for 3 years. If anything happens to your motor or drivetrain, Nissan will not cover it (most likely, some will argue that point but I think you will find they wont). Your extented warranty would not cover it either as far as anything even closely related to the engine, clutch, tranny etc.

Stillen: A 3rd party warranties the Stillen SC to cover the engine for 36,000 miles. The rest of the drivetrain is not covered.

Dream Workes to be released in January: 36,000 mile warranty by a 3rd party insurance company on entire drivetrain. They claims selected Nissan/Infinity dealers will be selling and installing them. Again, my bet is your extended warranty will not cover this product. You can call them to verify it. If they say yes, get it in writing.

I hope this helps, Jeff - zland

Do you know which Stillen Kit will be tested? Will it be the "standard" kit or the 7PSI I/C'd kit.

It will be the 7psi with the intecooler. Skk100 on this site owns the car. You can ask him for specs exactly if you like. He is kind enough to allow it to be included in the test and I apprecite him doing so just as the others that are doing it. BTW, the way his car is set up now is not covered by the warranty so it is not the base configuration offered by Stillen this point.

Default the stillen kit will win

Mark my words.........the Stillen kit intercooled at 7 psi will win the 1/4 mile shootout, maybe not max out the highest peak hp, but will be the quickest ride there. and with all the suspension goodies stillen has on there, most likely the fastest around the track.

fluidz:

good luck with your choice of the stillen SC. When are you getting it installed? Will it run 5.5 or 7psi and will you get the IC? Are you going hood or scoop?

Nope.

Apparently, Vortec's late entry is more important than the first PE TT test.

Cheston, I think what the idea is to get all the SC'ers up against each other in test #1. Then in test #2, put your PE TT against the top one and maybe the DW one that will be released. I also hope by then that maybe Greddy will be on the market so your PE will have another TT to compare to (not planned, just my hope). You are still scheduled to be in it. Again, not my decision on who is choosen to be in part 1 or 2 test. I am just guessing on the reason based upon the e-mails I recieved.

I am an enthusist, like you, doing everything i can to get as much data for the Z community. I cant wait to see your car. How is it going? do you have the kit yet in your hand? Are you installing it yet and if yes, when do you estimate it will be done?

smart way to start, you are going for the warranty. You can slways add more boost if you feel you need extra power.
