VQ35DE shopping pointers?
Dear fellow my350z'ers,
the rod knock troll has reared his ugly head on an abused-turbocharged 2003 VQ35DE. So, it's time to buy a used motor within our budget that will hold @ 400bhp level. If any of you would be so kind as to share your experience so we can get this Z properly tuned on the dyno, we would really appreciate it!:
1. What should we look out for when buying a used VQ35DE at what mileage points?
2. Have you guys experienced any issues using UpRev Osiris Tuner flashed-ECU with later year VQ35DE motors?
3. Are there any perks (or drawbacks) to using a JDM VQ35DE instead of usdm versions?
Thanks!

^ What he said is pretty accurate.
I'm on a used stock engine (had around 50k on it when it went in), currently at the 400whp level, and running an Uprev flash. Just make sure the engine you are getting is in good shape and has no problems.

+1, the older (non-rev) engines are more stout than the revups. This not only from experience but from a multiple nissan/infiniti mechanics I know who has seen all kinds of failures.
Do a leakdown test and if possible send an oil sample to blackstone before commiting to an engine.

are you near ST louis, missouri?
I have an extra short block from a 2004 vq35de (non-rev) sitting in my garage. I actually have the complete engine but i disassembled it because i thought i was going to use the short block myself.
