Wrong section, we have a tuning section but ill help ya out.
To log, retrieve DTC etc you need cipher along with the cipher cable (which you say you already have) You can download it HERE
Here is the Uprev site where you can get any other downloads http://www.uprev.com/support.php

The tuning license is stored on the cable, not the ECU. And it marries to the ECU during tuning. So your friends cable will only do basic stuff like logging and listing and clearing DTC's, NOT actual tuning or DTC disable.

Ok thanks for the answer. Yeah the cars got some issues as of now so I'm going to rear my codes and see what comes up. Probably going to see a misfire code. I'm suppose to go back to fix all my problems in October.

Not true, or atleast not for me. I tune my car via a different cable than the tuner used. And have also done the same with a friends car who another shop tuned. When you flash the car the license moves to the ECU or atleast that's how I understand it. Because the cable I use has no licenses on it, and I believe that pro tuners have multiple licenses on their cable and reload them after they run out.
