Without sounding redundant,no problem with a SC install...keeping stock internals.
As with what others may have said, this is dependent on what is your HP objective and, budget.I know of several Z owners in my area that are running a SC(Vortech) set up
with other related mods(exhaust, intake,of course tune),to balance it all out and are getting an added 100hp.If you do go SC,I'd recommend Vortech.
They don't make a Vortech kit for the hr, just stillen that uses a Vortech blower Now

What are your power goals and goals for the car?

Stillen uses Vortech SC on the VQ35HR. We recently worked on one with some upgrades including Haltech standalone and nitrous. You can see comparison dynos on our blog here: http://www.dynosty.com/2011/11/stillen-supercharged-2007-nissan-350z-hr-upgrades/

Sorry for your loss..I luckily still have mine but she had esophageal cancer and had less than a 10% survival rate. She is almost at 5 years healthy but I know the pain you are going through.

Good luck at school be the top of your class for your mom!

NateZ08,

I don't have a FI car but I have researched the SC question quite a bit for the HR. Both of the threads over in the VQ35HR tech area cover both of your options. To sum it up the Stillen kit is CARB approved but not many of these have been installed on the VQ35HR and in speaking a month ago with them they only had a canned tune for an AT (you should definitely call them and see what's available now). Also with this kit you need to modify some of the hood bracing and delete your strut brace. The GTM kit is not CARB approved however they are working this but no ECD. I believe the GTM kit does not require removal of the strut brace nor notching the hood.

Sorry for your loss. Pay for that schooling BEFORE you buy one part.

Education is priceless....

thats sad new. im sorry to hear that. you may want to speak with people who have gone to school at UTI and are in the work place... i have a couple friends who regret that to the fullest. also, dont waste your money on a s/c, you'll just end up wanting to go turbo in the end anyways.

this ^ depends what you want to do from the education if your happy replacing parts at a dealer its for you. my wife is attending uti atm and shes fine with that. but if you expect to be building cars or making something fast more than likely its not for you

Sorry to hear about your loss. My DE had a Vortech on it and the head unit let go. Now it has a built short block and a turbo. Believe me when I say 375rwhp is not all that fun after you get used to it. My car is getting the final tune & tweeks right now and should be right around 525rwhp. The cost of a Stillen S/C or a turbo kit is around the same and you can always keep the boost low on the turbo until you have the money to give it the short block treatment and then crank it up.

+1 on the pay for school first. It gets expensive building these cars. My 2 cents.

I'd go with the GTM kit for the HR. I believe you have to hack up your hood rib supports to be able to cram in Stillen's kit.

Keith, xzotklr is Adrian from NY. He came to the airstrip and ZdayZ back in the day with rrmedicx (Randy). He is built with TT via Vinnie 10... he is legit even though he doesn't post much.

Adrian, tell rrmedicx I said hello and hope he is still enjoying his german reliability

Another misleading post....

Nobody else could replicate this online so why you keep bringing up the price is beyond me. Do you want me to tell you that Id build a 9 second Civic for what you paid? That argument would be just as dumb.

Dude, I'm sorry about your loss.

Sounds like you're basically just starting out in life. Why waste what little money you have on boosting a platform that has proven itself to be so fragile/unreliable/expensive?

Save your money and don't waste it boosting a five year old car.

You need not worry about my financial situation. You have no knowledge of it nor do you even know my name.
