Got Guages??
Here is my latest project where I replaced the stock # guage pod with 3 custom guages...I put Autometer Silver faced light weight guages, Mechanical Boost 20 psi, Electric fuel pressure 100psi and electric EGT..How does it look???

First let me preface this by saying where you mount your probe is probably the most important decision you can make. I have not worked on an FI Z yet, so ahve not looked into the leanest running cylinder, but this is wher your probe should be mounted (directly in the exhaust manifold, about 2-4 inches from the head).
That being said, most street cars tend to want to run (and make their peak power) at somewhere between 800 C and 900 C on pump gas (usually just a tad above 800 is ideal, though it depends on the engine). Your gauge only goes to 871 C. As you can see, this presents a problem in the upper ranges, as you'll be near to peaking your gauge out. We tend to prefer the Greddy, Defi, etc gauges, as they usually read to around 2300 F (about 1200-1300 C), giving you a much wider range, and hence, easier to spot differences in the most critical areas.

1. Autometer EGt gauge STINKS....I cannot tell you how many I have had bad out of the box, and how many other have failed prematurely (bad probe)

I would mount the EGT probe in the exhaust manifold before the up pipe. I preferred digital 3 meter displays (Boost, EGT, Trans Temp). I would need to stay below 1350F to keep the turbo fans from disforming.
Z1 are you sure you are not confusing F and C. 1600F would surely melt the fan. Powerstrokes and Cummins run much hotter than gas cars (again please read my preface). Normally I was around 600-850 EGT. When flooring or towing it would easily jump upto 1200 and I would simply keep an eye on it.
My truck was not stock. I had reporgrammed the ECU, exhaust and intake - gave me 200 additional HP and about the same amount of TQ. To get a 14 1/4 mile I would have to launch in 4wd and shift into 2wd at speed. Propane added even more power. My last truck was damn fast. An 8000 lb truck keeping up GTs and the like. Brakes were damn good too.
BTW had under $1200 invested for those gains (not counting propane). I sure wish the G could do the same. LOL
