Default SFR Twin Turbo Setup

So I'm bringing this thread back up rather than making a new one.

There is a SFR twin turbo kit with twin 38mm tial wastegates and open dump here locally its missing a few things but hes asking a pretty cheap price so I might go for it.

I'll be tuning with UpRev

I'm thinking of running it conservative under 400whp then try to push for 500whp once I build the block what do you guys think? I've been on here a while now and I know running it on stock block is a gamble I have 150k KM on the motor.

The other thing is what turbos to run that will be semi decent on the street at under 400whp but still be able to make 500whp when I build the block.

rcdash has SFR headers and his setup spooled nicely with a pair of Garrett GTX2867 turbos. That turbo would be a good choice for a quick spooling but potent street setup. Not a cheap choice though.

I actually talked to Tim@SFR today and were thinking either GT28 or GT30 I didn't think about the GTX line but its a possibility my main concern right now is whos gonna tune it my local tuner has only done maybe 5 and only 1 of them worth talking about.

rcdash has a sweet setup those are nice numbers, I will be running on pump 91 octane though.

Heres what is missing so far

Air filters and intake piping - 400$
Oil feed and drain lines - 150$
Exa scavenge pump rather not use the stock one from what I've read - 379$
T Bolt clamps - 40$
Wastegate gaskets - 20$
Heatshield wrapping - 100$
Turbos - ?

Tim also mentioned I would have to extend my O2 sensor harness

i also have a full SFR kit. are you planning on doing the install yourself? its not easy by any stretch. gotta remember that Rcdash had the kit built on the car at considerable expense.

unless you have access to fabrication equip and lots of tools, or you are going to have a shop build the kit onto your car, you will be better off getting a greddy or something like that.

if you dont have a built block you dont need gtx turbo's. i ran standard gt2871's and made 530 on my stock block at 10-11 lbs then made 670 with them and meth on my built block. theyre cheaper and if your not going for huge power the gtx's arent really nessicary

I was planning to do it at my local tuning shop we were both going to work on it.

I talked with TurboTim and he said GT28s would work perfect for what I wanted (350-385 on stock block tuned with UpRev and just over 500 on a built block).

I just got off the phone with Hal@Dynosty he always treats me good and gives me advice when I ask.

I told him my situation and my goals and what I had for options BP kit, this SFR (Owner is currently asking 2300$ and TurboTim quoted me 3500$ in missing parts)

Hal said the SFR kit is a great kit capable of making nice power but like you guys said its not an easy kit to install by any stretch it will have to be cut and welded to fit.

He suggested a 20g Greddy kit.

Now what do you guys suggest of my 3 options keep in mind I'm pretty new to the platform and I've never dealt with f/i but I have been reading around the forum for a while.

the greddy kit is pretty straight forward and can be done with the engine in the car. I've pulled my turbos off 2 times in the last month for rebuild (1 time was attempted self rebuild-didn't turn out so well, 2nd time was to send them to boost lab to rebuild). The 20g make good power on my built block and good room to grow. If you can find a cheap 18g kit then that would be good for quicker spool and makes good power too...see alberto's thread.

I believe the 20g only comes in a tuner kit, but the 18g may be a full kit and tuner kit.

As a SFR kit owner i would deff get the greddy 20g kit and be done with it.

i have the sfr kit on my built block and while it is a powerful setup, there are alot of headaches associated with it. Sharif had to cut and box the frame on the driver side to get the manifold to fit, and the oil return setup is a pain in the ***. I have replaced the pump 2 times finally going with the turbowerx exa pump. Now i have to redo the return lines in stainless AN lines since the fittings on the new sump pump are different than the original. The intake pipes look like **** fittment wise and i have to remove piping just to change my damn oil filter. I am fixing these issue by redoing the pipes and relocating my filter. After the modifications i have made the kit will be great, but i do regret not getting a greddy kit and calling it a day.

BTW if you do insist on getting the SFR kit, look at Bullseye for your turbo's. I got there t3/t4 60-1 set and they were way cheaper than the garrett options at the time.
