Default Install time on Vortech for Z....

I have seen the trend suggesting that it takes at least 20 hours to install the Greddy, and I assume that most TT kits will take the same amount of time. With about $2500 in installation alone, that makes the TT kits price of admission quite high.

Now, I have seen on a site that the Vortech takes 4-5 hours to install on the Z, is this true?? That would make the install be pretty cheap, and even put it into the catergory of a do-it-yourselfer(some can do this). Could you realistically plan to get the vortech on a Z in 4-5 hours with a good installer, and get a price of like $300-$400 dollars??

That number seems pretty low if you ask me.

Yesterday, I was quoted $700 to install, $500 to tune, and $150 dyno fee.

How much did your installation cost Steve??

There is a reason for my madness here. Looks like there is around a $3500 difference between a TT and vortech installed by a 3rd party. Headers alone for the SC package would be like $1200 plus 10 hours of labor. Heck, an SC with headers are just about as much as a TT with its included turbo manifolds, with maybe $1500 between them. Now this price is with some crawford or nismo headers, of course the borlas are cheaper, but maybe not as good.

OK, I have seen others say longer, but 5 hours is much better. Still puts the cost of headers and install quite high, seems like you spend alot no matter what you do, lol.

So lets say $5000 for the vortech, $1200 for headers, $1000 for install of both, sound about right depending on where, of course?? Easier to get install time on the vortech......anyone else out there got an idea on the time for install of the vortech??

I paid $700 to install mine. Shop was not very happy because it took them 3 days.

So 1K would be about right for Vortech and headers. Why does it take so much less time to install Vortech than ATI when the Vortech has to tap the oil pan?

Interesting, was that by the hour or just a total for the install?? A site says 4-5 hours for install, but there is noway I believe that. $700 sounds like a good price, if you can find it.

The main thing I like about an SC is the fact that you can spend less upfront, and add headers, high flow cats, and exhausts later. With the TT, you get a manifold and you get the upside and flexibility of a TT, but it is alot more money.

Decisions, decisions..........

My installation/tune cost was right about what Morris quoted. Since we're both from North Carolina, I'll bet his quote is from the shop that did my install.

The $500 tuning charge at that shop is only needed if the splitsecond box that ships with the Vortech kit doesn't have the A/F and timing retard set optimally for your car.

So far, that shop has done two installs of the Vortech kit and both needed tuning. However, both were done on G35s rather than on a 350z. Vortech has said that it will have a G35-specific program for the splitsecond box, so it's possible that with a dyno run you would find that the Vortech kit install on the 350z would require no tuning at all. I certainly wouldn't want to use an installer who didn't have the R4 software required to do the tuning, however.

Yeah, that tuning charge puts it at a hefty $1350, way more than I would want to spend on just installing the vortech. Looking at getting a deal at $700 for install of an SC is better than "a deal" of $2500 for a TT, though, lol.

little_rod - the $700 install quote was a flat rate, but that works out to about 10 hours. i know the extra $650 for tuning and dyno time jacks the price up a bit, but in my opinion it is essential.

zimbo - I am not sure where you got yours installed, but I think it was the same place.

My quote came from Underground Racing in Charlotte. I think they have done 2 g35's and 1 350 now.

Even if the vortech box is pretuned for the 350z, I would still pay the extra $500 to get it fine tuned on a dyno with a wideband 02.

Zimbo, can we meet sometime for me to see your setup? I have seen one Vortech install, but would appreciate seeing another and maybe going for a ride.

Does the Vortech use the Split Second ARM1? If so, I think I have found a Wideband sensor that will interface with it?

bigdaddy,

I have not seen the 350. I didn't get that from them, so it could be wrong. Next time I stop in there, I will ask them.
